A Derek Carr return to the Las Vegas Raiders?

I mean, I’m not sure at the top of the team’s to-do list, but it’s probably not out of the question, either.

The Raiders, of course, are hiring Klint Kubiak as their head coach. he was Carr’s offensive coordinator with the New Orleans Saints in 2024. Carr has been vocally supportive of Kubiak becoming the Raiders’ new leader.

Perhaps Kubiak feels the same way about Carr. A reunion can’t be discounted. There are a couple of ways this could happen.

Carr, who was the Raiders’ starting quarterback from 2014-22, could potentially be in the mix as a backup quarterback should he want to return to the game after retiring last year. If Carr, who will be 35 in March, feels healthy, he could be interested in playing again, especially for a coach he is comfortable with and for the franchise he played nine seasons for. Carr has said he much he loves Las Vegas and has said he harbors no ill feelings about being released by the team three years ago.

Let’s face, there would be mentors than Carr for expected No. 1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza. From everything we’ve seen of Mendoza, it seems like he and Carr would be a good personality fit.

And, if Carr and/or the Raiders aren’t interested in him playing, it has been floated by media that perhaps Carr could be part of Kubiak’s coaching staff in an entry-level role.

Again, who knows if this will be a reality, but there are some reasons to think it’s possible. What do you think about a Carr return to the Silver and Black in some form? I guess stranger things have happened.
