It took longer than anyone was expecting for the New York Giants to fill their offensive coordinator job.
However, they made what might be the most important hire of the year, second only to head coach John Harbaugh, Tuesday morning by hiring former Chicago Bears head coach and Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy.
The hiring seemingly came out of nowhere, as Nagy wasn’t widely linked to the Giants at any point in the process. The team kept their cards close to their vests when it came to filling their offensive coordinator position. But even so, there was remarkably little warning that Nagy would be the guy to handle Jaxson Dart’s development — and plenty of surprise.
It’s OK to be skeptical of the Matt Nagy hire. It’s healthy, actually.
This is a safe pick for John Harbaugh and Giants at OC. Does safe mean the disaster some are predicting on here? Absolutely not.
Now I take a swing at QB coach on innovation and creativity.

Some Giants’ fans are certainly expressing their skepticism:
The Matt Nagy hire is way too safe of a hire for my liking. Would’ve rather a more innovative guy but nonetheless think it’s going to be better than people think. #Giants

I trust John Harbaugh when it comes to building a coaching staff despite being very sketpical of this Matt Nagy hire. Let’s play ball.

Kingsbury was right there. This is awful.

Some may be over-reacting just a bit…
John might be worse then Joe judge as a giants HC he’s gonna get fired by next season

Some, are holding out hope that Nagy can surprise with Dart (as opposed to Mitchell Trubisky and Justin Fields).
There was a four game stretch where Andy Reid gave up play calling to Matt Nagy towards the end of the 2017 season. The Chiefs went 4–1 & scored 28.6 points per game
RPO’s became a huge part of the Chiefs offense under Nagy and it’s continued with Mahomes. Mahomes had over 100…

Former players, on the other hand, think this a sneaky-good hire for the Giants with exciting potential.
Matt Nagy has very fun chess pieces to work with on that NYG roster. Excited for him to get a second crack even though I believe he will be a head guy soon enough.
