NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said on Monday the league will “look at all the facts” regarding New York Giants’ co-owner Steve Tisch’s name surfacing 440 times in files related to Jeffrey Epstein that were released on Friday by the Department of Justice.
Goodell was asked during a Super Bowl press conference whether the league will investigate Tisch, and whether punishment could be forthcoming.
“Well, you may be getting ahead of yourself on the second part,” Goodell said. “But I would say that absolutely we are going to look at all the facts. We’re going to look at the context of those. We’re going to try to understand that. And we’ll look at how that falls under the [personal conduct] policy. But I think we take one step at a time. Let’s get the facts first.”
Prior to Goodell’s press conference the league had tried to get ahead of the Tisch situation by issuing the following statement:
“The league is aware of the reports and Steve’s response. Our office will look into the matter to understand the facts.”
Tisch, of course, released his own statement after the news of his involvement surfaced in The Athletic. It read:
“We had a brief association where we exchanged emails about adult women, and in addition, we discussed movies, philanthropy, and investments. I did not take him up on any of his invitations and never went to his island. As we all know now, he was a terrible person and someone I deeply regret associating with.”
