Giants news, 2/3: Davis Webb staying in Denver, Carnell Tate mocked to Giants

Good morning, New York Giants fans!

From Big Blue View

Other Giant observations

Eli Manning Exclusive: Giants legend talks John Harbaugh, ownership, quick turnaround

Addressing the turnaround potential directly, Manning pointed to the NFL’s parity and the Giants’ assets.

“Yes, because of his success and the way the NFL is set up, and you see it a lot with some of these teams this year,” he said. “You look at the Patriots today, they got a second-year quarterback and a new coach, and you can make that jump. The Giants have a talented roster; they have good players. But I think we have the right players and the right leaders that can get everybody to believe that they can be a playoff team.”

Jameis Winston on the Giants’ OC search

1. John Harbaugh, New York Giants He’s the home-run hire of the offseason and the Giants had to hit it given their miserable, embarrassing record over the past 14 years. They tried a line of promising, inexperienced coaches and it just didn’t work. They needed someone who had done it before, and would instantly restore credibility to their franchise.

Harbaugh, of course, had a long and successful run in Baltimore, going 180-113 over 18 seasons, making the playoffs 12 times and winning a Super Bowl. But more than his coaching success, he boasts a presence and credibility the Giants have been missing since Tom Coughlin. He can stand in front of a team that is generally perceived as talented but underachieving, and the players know that what he says and does will work — because it has. He will immediately restore discipline and confidence, and he has a history of being great with young quarterbacks. He is the one coach who could make the Giants’ desired turnaround incredibly quick. Grade: A+

Giants need John Harbaugh to follow the Tom Coughlin blueprint — even if they’re’different’ | New York Post

For this to work, John Harbaugh is going to have to be worth every penny of the $100 million the Giants guaranteed him to save them.

For this to work, Harbaugh is going to have to be what he has been and even more than that to get the Giants to refresh the franchise from its prolonged malaise.

Can Giants QB Jaxson Dart make Super leap like Patriots’ Drake Maye? | The Record

As rookies … Drake Maye: 3 wins in 12 starts, 2,276 passing yards, 15 TD passes, 10 INT, 2 rush TD Jaxson Dart: 4 wins in 12 starts, 2,272 passing yards, 15 TD passes, 5 INT, 9 rush TD Can Dart make Year 2 leap that Maye did?

Wetzel: NFL should look into Giants co-owner Steve Tisch | ESPN.com

Tisch isn’t accused of violating any law in his conduct, but that doesn’t mean NFL commissioner Roger Goodell shouldn’t ask lots of questions about all this, if not launch an investigation. He should treat a long-standing owner — Tisch’s father originally bought half the Giants in 1991 — the way he would a random player.

“Everyone who is part of the league must refrain from ‘conduct detrimental to the integrity of and public confidence in’ the NFL,” the league’s personal conduct policy reads. “It is not enough simply to avoid being found guilty of a crime in a court of law. We are all held to a higher standard and must conduct ourselves in a way that is responsible, promotes the values of the NFL, and is lawful.” The policy later notes that, “Ownership and club or league management have traditionally been held to a higher standard and will be subject to more significant discipline when violations of the Personal Conduct Policy occur.”

Every NFL Team’s Top Trade Targets in 2026 Offseason | Bleacher Report

There could be a trade target or two from Harbaugh’s old post as well. Namely, Marlon Humphrey. He would help address the Giants need at cornerback. He would not only give the room experience and leadership, but his versatility would help them get their best secondary on the field. The offensive line could be in for an overhaul and Cesar Ruiz’s experience on the inside would make for a smooth transition.

The wide receiver market could be interesting for the Giants. Wan’dale Robinson had a huge breakout season, but they’ll have to decide if he’ll continue to produce at that level for the contract he could command. If they decide that isn’t the case they could circle back on a name like Jaylen Waddle after showing interest in him at the trade deadline.

Draft or Free Agency: How each NFL team should attack their biggest need | PFF

Biggest Need: Wide receiver Target: WR Carnell Tate, Ohio State. Malik Nabers flashed star potential as a rookie in 2024, ranking eighth out of 133 qualifying wide receivers in PFF overall grade (86.7). He appeared in just four games this season before suffering a torn ACL, so we didn’t get an opportunity to see how he would develop with quarterback Jaxson Dart. Beyond Nabers, the Giants’ wide receiver unit looks thin, especially since slot specialist Wan’Dale Robinson is heading into free agency and may not be back with the team. Sometimes overshadowed by Jeremiah Smith at Ohio State, Tate is a polished prospect in his own right after finishing fifth in the FBS with an 89.0 PFF receiving grade. He also did not drop a single pass across 66 targets this season.

5. New York Giants. Mansoor Delane, LSU, CB, Senior. Delane is a smothering presence outside with the ability to stay tight on all three levels and take the rock away.
