NY Giants NFL mock draft tracker 1.0: Early focus is on wide receiver

Our first look at what mock drafts believe the New York Giants will do in the 2026 NFL Draft shows wide receiver as the favored pick for the Giants at No. 5 overall.

Thirteen of the 27 mock drafts in our initial tracker (48.1%) have the Giants selecting a wide receiver. Seven (25.9%) give the Giants Ohio State wide receiver Carnell Tate, and six (22.2%) give New Arizona State receiver Jordyn Tyson.

What does this tell us?

Not much.

The thing about these early mock drafts for the Giants is that, while they are fun and provide discussion, they are basically useless in terms of telling us what the New York Harbaughs might actually do in April.

Today, the Giants could justify doing any number of things at No. 5:

  • Selecting a wide receiver. Either Carnell Tate or Jordyn Tyson would be a nice complement to Malik Nabers.
  • Selecting Ohio State safety Caleb Downs. Forget positional value, John Harbaugh coached both Ed Reed and Kyle Hamilton and knows what a great safety can do for a defense. Besides, Downs can fill any number of roles.
  • Selecting someone like Arvell Reese to give them the impact linebacker they have needed for ages.
  • Selecting an offensive tackle like Francis Mauigoa or Spencer Fano.
  • Selecting a cornerback like Mansoor Delane, even if that would likely mean trading down a few spots.

Until the Giants get through free agency, we have no real idea what will make sense for them at No. 5.

The Giants have key free agents of their own at positions of need. Jermaine Eluemunor at right tackle, Wan’Dale Robinson at wide receiver, Cor’Dale Flott at cornerback. They have to clear significant cap space, which will mean that along with restructures there will be cuts. We have to see how the roster changes once the free agency signing period opens. That is always a tell regarding draft plans, and could be even more information in Year 1 of the Harbaugh era.

So, Giants fans, have fun debating all these mock drafts and arguing over which prospects you like and don’t like. Be aware, though, that a lot is yet to happen before the Giants figure out how they will approach the upcoming draft.
