The New York Giants are looking for an offensive coordinator. One name mentioned constantly is Jaxson Dart’s former coordinator at Ole Miss, Charlie Weis Jr. So, what does Dart think of Weis?
“I loved playing with Charlie,” Dart told Big Blue View in an exclusive interview. “Made tremendous strides as a player each year playing under him. Obviously just have a great relationship with him, his dad [Charlie Weis Sr.], his wife Jen. They’re a great family and I couldn’t say anything bad about Charlie.
“He’s a great coach. He’s a bright young mind in this game, and he’s going to have a long career and is going to win a lot of championships. Whatever level that is, I have all the respect in the world for him.”
Dart addressed a handful of topics during a 10-minute one-on-one, which came thanks to a Dart partnership with Kinder Bueno and Betches.
His first NFL season [0:53] …
Dart went through a disappointing 4-13 season, and watched the coaching staff turn over with Brian Daboll out and John Harbaugh now in.
“Geez, I can’t really say there’s just one main lesson,” Dart said. “This this year’s been a whirlwind. There’s just been a lot of things that have happened. A lot of movement going on and I think it’s really just been a whole year of learning. I think it’s just been a whole year of maturing and I know that it’s going to help me for these years to come.”
His relationship with Brian Daboll [2:00] …
“I think I first of all just want to give a shout out to Coach Dabes. The relationship that I had with him, the growth that I made with him,” Dart said. “He was a coach that just was bought in to me, gave me a ton of confidence to go out there and compete. So I couldn’t give him enough love and credit for our relationship.”
New head coach John Harbaugh [2:30] …
“His experience playing in in in the biggest games, winning the biggest games year in and year out, having a team that just competes at a really high level and is just physical. I’m excited to to be a part of that,” Dart said. “And I know that the culture that he’s going to bring here is going to be exciting. It’s going to be tough. It’s going to be physical. It’s going to be relentless. He was the coach that I wanted to play for. So, you know, I can’t wait to get this thing rolling with him.”
His friendship with Cam Skattebo [11:00] …
“From the moment we met each other, our first headbutt with each other, our bond has continued to grow,” Dart said. “He sees the game the way I see it. From a relationship standpoint, from a friendship, from a teammate standpoint there’s no another guy I’d want to have in the backfield with me just competing, having the relentless mindset to do whatever it takes to win. He’s just a guy that will die on that field, just like I will.”
