Eagles Question of the Day:

What’s the Eagles’ biggest priority this offseason? Head over to The Feed and weigh in with your answer and explanation!

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles news and links …

Get ready for a documentary on ‘The Philly Special’ – NBCSP

The Rocky movies are among the best sports stories ever told on film. But they’re just that – stories. Not real. Soon fans can watch and learn about the story of real Philadelphia sports heroes, and maybe the most legendary event in the city’s long sporting history. ESPN Films released the trailer Thursday for its latest 30 for 30 documentary, “The Philly Special,” about the famous trick play the 2017 Eagles pulled off in Super Bowl LII against the Patriots. The doc will premiere Friday, February 6 at 9:00pm on ESPN and the ESPN app. “The amazing thing about ‘The Philly Special’ is that it’s a real-life Rocky story,” said NFL Films co-director Angela Zender. “A group of five underdogs went up against the greatest dynasty in NFL history and pulled off an upset worthy of Hollywood. That underdog mentality is something that will resonate with people all over the country.”

Should Nick Sirianni call plays for the Eagles again? – BGN

Point 5: At this point, Sirianni has been on and off the hot seat nearly every year, and one of the winningest head coaches in NFL history faces scrutiny at every turn — let him call plays and see if anything has changed since he last did it in 2021. If everyone wants to question what he does for the Eagles, put it to the test and see if he really is a reason or a byproduct of the team’s success, and then make a decision next year based off those results.

Report: Colts’ Jim Bob Cooter has second interview for Eagles open OC job – Stampede Blue

The Colts and head coach Shane Steichen have not blocked the Eagles interview attempts, because while it appears to be a lateral move at face for Cooter, it’s actually not. Steichen will continue to call the offensive plays in Indianapolis, whereas the candidate that the Eagles ultimately hire will be the new play caller for Sirianni. Regarding Cooter, the 41-year-old has been the Colts offensive coordinator since 2023, having previously served as the Jacksonville Jaguars passing game coordinator in 2022. His ties to the Eagles come from 2021, when he served as an offensive consultant for then first-year head coach Nick Sirianni. Among his prior professional coaching stops, he also served as an offensive assistant for the Colts back in 2009-11. With Cooter’s offensive coaching assistance, the Colts averaged the 8th most points (27.4 avg. ppg.) in the NFL this past year.

Patriots add veterans Trent Sherfield Sr., Patrick Johnson to practice squad ahead of Super Bowl LX – Pats Pulpit

Patrick Johnson, 28, entered the NFL in the seventh round of the 2021 draft at No. 234 overall out of Tulane. The 6-foot-2, 248-pound linebacker was a member of the Philadelphia Eagles’ Super Bowl LVII team and returned for a second stint last March after being claimed off waivers by the New York Giants in 2024. A veteran of the practice squad and 53-man roster, Johnson has checked into 70 games in the regular season and stayed in for 615 snaps on defense to go with 1,902 snaps on special teams. Starting a pair up front while totaling 47 tackles, one sack, one forced fumble and one recovery, the NFC East alum has also taken the field for five playoff games.

Daily Slop: 29 Jan 26 – Commanders assistant coach interviewing for Steelers defensive coordinator position – Hogs Haven

A report on Tuesday night pointed to Commanders defensive pass game coordinator Jason Simmons is expected to interview with the Pittsburgh Steelers for the defensive coordinator vacancy under head coach Mike McCarthy, who was officially announced as head coach on Tuesday.

Todd Monken to Cleveland might be a blessing for NY Giants, John Harbaugh – Big Blue View

Which brings us to offensive coordinator. It is well-known that Harbaugh was planning to bring Todd Monken, his offensive coordinator the past three season in Baltimore, to New York. Until, that is, the Cleveland Browns named Monken their head coach. There have been reports that the Giants and Monken had even discussed contract parameters before Monken accepted the top job in Cleveland. Monken would likely have done an excellent job with Jaxson Dart and the Giants’ offense. But, it wasn’t to be. What now for Harbaugh and the Giants’ offense? Harbaugh could stay inside his circle, perhaps by convincing Ravens’ quarterbacks coach Tee Martin to come to New York to run the offense and work with Dart. Or, Harbaugh could take this as an opportunity to evolve, to hear different ideas and perspectives, to grow by going outside his bubble. He could hire someone like Davis Webb, Nate Scheelhaase, Charlie Weis Jr., or even a former NFL head coach like Kliff Kingsbury. How this plays out is going to be fascinating, and might provide a window into Harbaugh’s willingness to step outside his comfort zone.

Eli Manning fails to make Hall of Fame in second attempt – SB Nation

Debate over whether or not Eli Manning is a Hall of Famer will be postponed another year, with The Athletic reporting that Eli did not make the cut to be entered into the 2026 Pro Football Hall of Fame. Manning being enshrined in Canton has been a hotly debated topic since he was put on the ballot for the first time in 2024. Some fans feel like his two Super Bowl wins over Tom Brady and the dominant Patriots is enough to warrant being included, while others feel that his resume just isn’t strong enough outside of those two wins — both of which were defined more by the Giants’ defense, than the team’s quarterback play. The best argument for Eli outside of the rings are his career passing yards. With 57,023 he’s 11th on the all-time passing yards list — but a career 84.1 passer rating, as well as having a TD/INT ratio of 366/244 really don’t make him someone worthy of being enshrined.

Browns DC Jim Schwartz: What is next after Todd Monken hired – Dawgs By Nature

For Schwartz, it has to be a bit of a disappointment not to land a head coaching job here. From our perspective, it would seem to make sense for him to stay put in Cleveland: he is beloved by the defensive players, he has a solid unit, and other teams aren’t exactly knocking on his door to be their head coach. However, it’s also worth noting that another ESPN report says Monken should be the one who makes the decision on Schwartz’ future.

How widespread sports betting affects NFL players: ‘People have said they’d kill me’ – The Athletic

The vast majority of players say they typically hear from disgruntled bettors and fantasy managers via social media. “On DMs all the time,” said an NFC offensive player. “People use slurs. People have said they’d kill me. I hadn’t seen the ball thrown my way, and I remember someone said they’d kill me. But I know it’s anonymous, and it’s just people saying stuff. It’s the internet.” And an NFC defensive player: “There was a time when a fan thought I had cost them the game. Another teammate got a personal foul, and our (jersey) numbers were close, but people thought it was my number. So I was getting DMs, ‘You messed up my bet!’ But it wasn’t me. I responded to a few of them.”

Dan McQuade, 1983–2026 – Defector

Dan McQuade, our friend and colleague, died this week at the age of 43. He is survived by his wife and young son. At the end of 2024, Dan was diagnosed with neuroendocrine cancer. The news of his diagnosis hit all of us hard, but Dan never lost his enthusiasm or his spirit. Some of us have worked with Dan for nearly a decade, and all of us have come to know him not just as a coworker, but as a great friend. [BLG Note: Dan is a Philly legend gone way too soon. Rest in peace.]
