Former Eagles in the Super Bowl, and Jim Schwartz wants out of Cleveland

As the 2025 NFL season comes to a close, there are still some former Eagles playing in Super Bowl LX, and there’s been a lot of former Philadelphia coaches on the move as nearly a third of the teams are hiring new head coaches and staff.

Here’s a look at some notables from Philly alumni around the league:

Super Bowl bound

There is just one game left of the 2025 NFL season, and it’s a Super Bowl matchup between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks.

The Patriots have several former Eagles on their roster, including LB Christian Elliss, WR Mack Hollins, and IDL Milton Williams — and, after Philly didn’t sign OLB Patrick Johnson to a futures contract, the veteran signed onto the Patriots practice squad. For the Seahawks, CB Josh Jobe is making a run for a Super Bowl ring.

Milton Williams is looking for back-to-back rings after signing with New England on a huge deal shortly after winning a Super Bowl with the Eagles. The DT dealt with an high ankle sprain that sidelined him for five games, but he had a good season and recorded eight QB hits and 3.5 sacks.

Jim Schwartz wants to leave the Browns

The Browns moved on from head coach Kevin Stefanski after the 2025 season, and DC Jim Schwartz was among the leading candidates to be promoted and take the reins. Instead, even after having a second interview for the position, and Cleveland narrowing it down to three candidates, the Browns named former Ravens OC Todd Monkin their new head coach.

As a result, Schwartz reportedly said goodbye to a few people in the building, and then left with no intention of returning to the team in 2026. Technically, Schwartz is still under contract, so he can’t just go elsewhere without the team allowing a move. Jordan Schultz reported that Schwartz would not stand down if things turned ugly — the 49ers could be interested in interviewing Schwartz, so the former Eagles DC should have options.

Other former Eagles coaches on the move

  • Christian Parker was expected to get an opportunity after a great (short) stop in Philly, and was hired as the Cowboys’ new DC.
  • Dennard Wilson is joining the NFC East, with the former Eagles DC taking the new coordinator job on John Harbaugh’s staff with the Giants.
  • Jonathan Gannon was fired as the Cardinals head coach and, after taking many interviews around the league, finally landed as the Packers DC in 2026.
  • Frank Reich interviewed with the Jets for their OC position, and hasn’t yet been linked to re-joining the Eagles.
  • Sean McDermott was fired after nine seasons as the Bills head coach, and despite meeting with the Buccaneers, is expected to take a year off and then reassess his options.

Gardner Minshew injury update

The Chiefs were already eliminated from the playoffs, Patrick Mahomes tore his ACL, and then Gardner Minshew was sidelined during his first game as the starter. The former Eagles QB suffered a significant knee injury in Week 17, and while it was initially feared that he also tore his ACL, it turns out that it was a bone bruise and didn’t require surgery.

Thankfully, that means the quarterback is already at full strength while he looks to sign with a new team in free agency.

Other Notables

  • Former Eagles draft pick QB Kyle McCord wasn’t re-signed by the organization after the end of the season, and he went on to sign a futures contract with the Packers.
  • RB Lew Nichols signed a futures contract with the Steelers after spending last season on their practice squad.
