Are the Philadelphia Eagles narrowing their offensive coordinator search down to a few finalists?
The Birds reportedly hosted Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach Sean Mannion for an in-person interview on Wednesday after previously meeting with him virtually.
And we’ve now come to learn this second interview took place one day after the Eagles held a second meeting with Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter on Tuesday. This much according to a report from NFL insider Jeremy Fowler.
The Eagles’ interest in Cooter was first reported on January 17. It was hardly a surprise to see his name up in this search since he previously worked as a consultant for the Eagles in 2021 before working with Doug Pederson in 2022 and then Shane Steichen for the last three seasons.
Cooter has play-calling experience from his time with the Detroit Lions, though his stint there ended in 2018. The Eagles could prefer not going with a first-time play-caller after the Kevin Patullo experience went awry in 2025.
But is removing Patullo just to hire another Nick Sirianni ally really the right solution for the Eagles? He’s really the best candidate for the job after conducting a broad search? How much is going to change with the offense if Cooter is the hire?
We might get a chance to see.
More on the Eagles’ offensive coordinator search from NFL insider Adam Schefter:
“Well, they might not be the big names that Sal [Pal] and Philadelphia may like, but they’ve spent the last couple days talking to Jim Bob Cooter of the Indianapolis Colts and Sean Mannion, the Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach, who a lot of people believe has a bright coaching future. And they’re looking for the right fit for one of these jobs. They’ve been through any number of candidates, they don’t appear to be in any rush to name somebody, they have Nick Sirianni who always can call the offense if they don’t find anybody worthy of doing the job. But they’re being diligent looking for the right match. And, also, again, the fit is not right for everybody, as we’ve seen. Some people have taken other jobs, some people have pulled out of consideration. But they think — they think — there are enough good candidates out there that they’re going to come out of this with a good, strong offensive coordinator.
Sirianni calling plays for the first time since 2021 when he had to give it up because he was bad at it? Not super inspiring, though it could be a case of the Eagles seeing if the head coach can sink or swim in terms of helping the offense.
Perhaps it won’t come to that. But it sounds like Schefter is setting the table for the possibility that they don’t hire a play-calling OC?
