The New York Giants coaching staff is beginning to take shape under new head coach John Harbaugh.
But while the team filled their defensive and special teams coordinator positions, their offensive coordinator position remains open.
Former Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken is widely considered to be the favorite to land the job. However, he is also a candidate for the Cleveland Browns head coaching job.
Browns beat writer Mary Kay Cabot reports Monday morning that Monken is still “in the mix” for the Browns job. That, obviously puts the Giants on hold until there’s a resolution.
the good news for the Giants is that the resolution may be coming sooner rather than later. Cabot also reports that the Browns are intrigued with the idea of pairing a young offensive mind like Rams’ passing game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase with DC Jim Schwartz.
Cabot adds that the Browns’ are flying to Los Angeles Monday morning to interview Scheelhaase a second time in person. That would suggest that the 35-year old coach is the favorite to win the job and could be hired as soon as today.
Things could begin moving very quickly, as the Giants have also interviewed Robert Prince for offensive coordinator, and he is likely a candidate for wide receivers coach. We’ll keep an eye on the developments out of Cleveland and report updates as we get them.
