Eagles executive reportedly drawing interest for Falcons general manager job

The Atlanta Falcons have requested permission to interview Philadelphia Eagles senior personnel director/advisor to the general manager Joe Douglas for their GM opening, according to a report from NFL insider Jonathan Jones.

Douglas re-joined the Eagles in May 2025 after going 32-68 in about 5.5 seasons as the New York Jets’ general manager. He originally served as the Eagles’ vice president of player personnel alongside Howie Roseman from 2016-2019.

It’s generally (no pun intended) uncommon for general managers to get second chances elsewhere, so, I’m not sure that Douglas is the most likely candidate. But he’s in the mix.

And so are a number of his former co-workers.

Former Eagles vice president of player personnel Andy Weidl, who replaced Douglas after he left Philly, has also interviewed for the Falcons’ general manager opening. Weidl has been the Pittsburgh Steelers’ assistant general manager since 2022.

Former Eagles director of player personnel Ian Cunningham, who has been the Chicago Bears’ assistant general manager since 2022, has been interviewed by Atlanta as well.

It isn’t difficult to see the through-line in these interviews; the Eagles’ success has clearly inspired the Falcons to be interested in these candidates. New Falcons head coach Kevin Stefanski is a Philly native, so, that might be a factor as well.

We’ll soon see if they end up hiring Douglas, a former member of the Eagles’ front office, or someone else entirely. If Douglas gets the job, Howie Roseman might look to find someone to replace his role.
