Daboll chose field goal on fourth-and-goal from the 3-yard line in the third quarter
In their 20-15 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday, the New York Giants had several key moments that defined the game, including a crucial fourth-down decision early in the second half. Head coach Brian Daboll explained the team’s choice to kick a field goal instead of going for a touchdown after an 11-play, 77-yard drive.
“We were gonna go for points on that one… to get three points. It was a close game, and we didn’t know what we would need at the end, but we were gonna kick it,” Daboll said.
The drive was capped with a reception by Wan’Dale Robinson, whose catch brought the Giants down to the Cowboys’ 3-yard line. Despite being in a position to go for the touchdown, the Giants opted for a 22-yard field goal from Greg Joseph that pulled them within two points, 14-12.
The analytics on the play indicated going for it was the better play, though only by a small margin.

“That’s a hard call because you want to get the points,” said offensive lineman Jermaine Eluemunor on the decision to kick the field goal. “If you don’t get that then they get the ball back with all the momentum. (2:06) You take the points and it’s 14-12.”
