The New York Giants and John Harbaugh are nearing a deal to make Harbaugh the Giants’ next coach.
The report, per Adam Schefter of ESPN, came late Wednesday following a long meeting between the two parties during the day.
Schefter posted a few more times on the topic, expressing the Giants’ aggressive pursuit of the veteran coach. An agreement is expected barring a setback.
The Baltimore Ravens turned the 2026 coaching cycle on its head when they made the decision to fire Harbaugh after 18 years. Harbaugh immediately became the most sought after coach on the market and the Giants’ top target. The team wasted no time in establishing contact with Harbaugh’s camp, and Chris Mara even visited the Super Bowl winning coach at his Baltimore home.
General manager Joe Schoen led a speedy and efficient coaching search that positioned them to be the first team able to hire a coach.
It had previously been reported that Harbaugh left East Rutherford without a deal, and would take a meeting with the Tennessee Titans at home on Baltimore.
Instead, it seems as though Harbaugh will eventually be announced as the Giants head coach in 2026. This is clearly welcome news to any fan who feared the team fumbled the opportunity to get the most experienced coach in a chaotic market.
Giants have been starved for victories (literal and figurative) for far too long. John Harbaugh was the consensus No. 1 coaching domino, and—barring a setback—he will coach the Giants in 2026. That represents a much-needed victory for a franchise desperately seeking leadership to guide its young nucleus of talent.
The concentration now shifts to the two sides hammering out the details of an agreement, and then filling out the coaching staff to maximize the Giants’ defensive play as well as Jaxson Dart’s development.
We’ll bring you more news and updates as we get them.
