Given the results of Saturday’s two NFL playoff games, we now know that the Philadelphia Eagles will be traveling to Chicago to take on the Bears in the Divisional Round.
That is, if the Eagles are first able to beat the San Francisco 49ers in Sunday’s Wild Card game at Lincoln Financial Field.
It looked like the Eagles might get a desirable result with the Carolina Panthers coming close to staging an upset over the Los Angeles Rams. But Matthew Stafford led the Rams on a clutch drive to escape Charlotte with a win, setting the stage for the Eagles to either 1) host the Rams or 2) play the Bears in Chicago if they get past the 49ers.
The second scenario came to pass with the Bears managing to erase an 18-point deficit in a win over the Green Bay Packers.
Neither the Rams nor the Bears looked very intimidating on Saturday. It doesn’t feel like it’s impossible for the Eagles to go into Chicago and come out with a win, assuming they make it to that point.
But it’s worth noting that this potential matchup against the Bears likely would’ve been located in Philly had the Eagles not rested their starters in Week 18. That rest might prove to be valuable. But the No. 2 seed also had value and it would’ve been preferable to host the Bears.
Then again, it’s not like a home game against the Bears would guarantee an Eagles win. The Birds previously lost to Chicago at The Linc on Black Friday.
But if the Eagles beat the 49ers to force a Bears rematch, they’ll be 6-0 in home playoff games, 1-1 in neutral site playoff games, and 0-2 in road playoff games since the Nick Sirianni/Jalen Hurts era began in 2021.
We’ll see if the Eagles are either headed to Chicago or eliminated from the postseason by Sunday evening.
