Eagles mailbag: Potential playoff opponents, the benefits of rest and more

Week 18 is here and after the The Tanner McKee Show passes on Sunday, all eyes will be on the Eagles as they attempt to repeat as Super Bowl champions. Until then, here are a few mailbag questions to hold us all over until we see some fresh football action…

@SwaggyMitch: Who do YOU want to see them play round 1?

The Eagles have three potential Wild Card Weekend opponents: Green Bay, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

In the outside chance that both the Eagles defeat Washington on Sunday and Chicago loses to Detroit at home, the Birds would be the No. 2 seed and face Green Bay. Beyond the benefits of being the No. 2 seed for the entire playoff run, facing this Packers team would be the best-case scenario.

Green Bay is limping into the postseason. All-World pass-rusher Micah Parsons has already been lost for the year. Jordan Love has missed a couple games with a concussion and, as of the way he’s playing right now, the third-worst possible quarterback to possibly matchup against given the potential of seeing a surging Brock Purdy with the 49ers or an MVP candidate in Matthew Stafford with the Rams.

I’m not scared of the Eagles facing anyone at home, but I’d much rather see Green Bay out there next weekend than any of the stellar NFC West squads. If I had to rank them all, I’d go Green Bay, Los Angeles and San Francisco in that order for who I’d most want the Birds to face.

@toddkbailey.bsk.social: Do you think one week off will make a meaningful difference for the health of Cam Jurgens and Landon Dickerson? Really need them to play much better to make a run.

As much as the Kevin Patullo experience has been an abject failure, I’ve harped all year on the fact that the offensive line struggles are the No. 1 reason why this offense is so stuck in the mud. Landon Dickerson and Cam Jurgens’ injuries, at least from afar, appear to be things that will take an entire offseason to recover from fully.

Dickerson and Jurgens were warriors during the run to the Super Bowl last year while playing through injury. Now we’re all seeing the ramifications of that and, ultimately, that’s the price you pay for being champions. I wouldn’t change that for a better 2025 nor would those two guys.

So, I can’t imagine it truly makes a world of a difference, but it’s a better alternative than getting banged up even further, right?

@toddkbailey.bsk.social: What’s your boring, likely to happen and bold prediction for the offseason?

I like this!

Boring: The Eagles trade A.J. Brown to an AFC team for a pair of Day 2 picks after failing to repeat as Super Bowl champions.

Bold: The Eagles trade up in the draft to land Miami pass-rusher Reuben Bain Jr. after he inexplicably tumbles out of the top five.

@302czar.bsky.social: What are you hoping to see out of the receivers with McKee in there on Sunday?

Darius Cooper has been on the field for 21 percent of the Eagles’ offensive snaps this season, but has just six targets. Given what I imagine is a decent rapport with McKee in practice given their respective spots on the depth chart, I could see him having himself a nice day against a Washington defense that’s 28th in passing yards allowed and 29th in passing touchdowns allowed. In an ode to Twin Peaks, perhaps we can get an “Agent Cooper” nickname going for him, too.
