The Miami Dolphins announced a series of roster moves on Friday, including ending the season for tight end Darren Waller. Miami heads into their Week 18 game against the New England Patriots knowing this is their final game of the year and starting their preparations for the 2026 season. Those preparations have included the addition of a rookie running back off the Washington Commanders’ practice squad.
Miami poached Dononvan Edwards, signing the rookie to the active 53-man roster. The move comes a day after the team added rookie quarterback Cam Miller off the Las Vegas Raiders’ practice squad. The Dolphins can now keep both players into the offseason, giving them an opportunity to evaluate them in the offseason training program and into training camp.
Edwards, out of Michigan, was initially signed by the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent in April. He was cut by the Jets in the final roster cuts after the preseason before joining the Commanders’ practice squad. He has been with Washington all season.
At Michigan, Edwards played in 50 career games, tallying 2,251 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns. His career high came in 2022, when he carried the ball 140 times for 991 yards and seven touchdowns. He also had 86 receptions for 797 yards and four touchdowns during his college career. He was named the MVP of the Big Ten Championship game in 2022.
Waller started the season on the physically unable to perform list with a hip injury after Miami traded for him from the New York Giants; Waller ended a one-year retirement to join the Dolphins. He spent time on injured reserve during the season due to the hip injury, but was able to return after four games. He now heads back to IR with a groin injury.
The veteran tight end finishes the season with nine games played, including three starts, and recorded 24 receptions for 283 yards and six touchdowns.
Miami also announced they were releasing cornerback Clarence Lewis from the practice squad.
