Chris’ Prediction: Lions 31, Vikings 10
Three Keys
1) Do something to get Max Brosmer comfortable – Brosmer has been the Vikings’ quarterback for six quarters of football, and in those six quarters the team has scored three points. That’s obviously not going to get it done today. This offense is likely going to have to lean on the run, including a banged-up Aaron Jones, Zavier Scott, and a returning Ty Chandler. If they can do that, it should make things easy enough on Brosmer to get some makeable throws when he needs to make him.
2) Send the house at Jared Goff up the middle – The interior of Detroit’s offensive line is a mess. The Vikings took advantage of that a lot in the first matchup between these two teams. In doing so, they not only got pressure on Goff, but they limited the ability for him to use his running backs as a safety valve in the passing game. I would expect Brian Flores and company to utilize a similar game plan today.
3) Play as clean a game as possible – The Vikings are a touchdown underdog at home and they’re playing without multiple starters. They can’t afford a bunch of penalties in any phase, whether it’s offense, defense, or special teams, if they want to harbor any hopes of pulling off a second upset over the Lions this season. Hopefully there won’t be a ton of flags against the purple in this one.
