This year’s Christmas Day contest between the Detroit Lions and our Minnesota Vikings from U.S. Bank Stadium is being advertised as a game that is exclusive to Netflix. However, if you are in a couple of locations, there will be local affiliates broadcasting the game in the event that you do not subscribe to the streaming service.
Specifically, if you live in the Twin Cities area, tomorrow’s game will be airing on the local CBS affiliate, which is WCCO-4. In addition, if you are a Vikings fan who is located in the greater Detroit area, you will be able to find the game on their local CBS station, WWJ-62.
Outside of those two very specific areas, the lone option will be Netflix. Unfortunately, it appears that Netflix stopped offering free trials of their service some years ago, so there are no other “free” options for this game if you aren’t already a subscriber.
So, for those of you in the Detroit or Twin Cities metro areas, your viewing experience for Christmas Day’s “Winter Whiteout” game at U.S. Bank Stadium is going to be, largely, uninterrupted. For the rest of us. . .well, there’s still time to find the cheapest possible Netflix subscription and either dump it if you don’t want it for anything else or just add it to the list of other streaming services that you’re already subscribed to.
