Starting left guard Jon Runyan is a surprise inactive for the New York Giants on Sunday as they will face the Minnesota Vikings in NFL Week 16.
Runyan, who has started all 14 games for the Giants this season, was not on the injury report for New York this week.
Runyan and his wife are expecting a child any time now, which is why Runyan will not play.
The Giants have veteran Aaron Stinnie as a backup guard. Backup center Austin Schlottmann also has guard experience. The other possibility to replace Runyan is rookie fifth-round pick Marcus Mbow. Mbow played exclusively at tackle earlier in the season. Whether or not he is prepared to play guard is something we might be about to find out.
Wide receiver Jalin Hyatt, a non-factor all season and blamed by some for running a poor route on an interception by Jaxson Dart last week against the Washington Commanders, is inactive. Hyatt has just five receptions in eight games.
