Kayvon Thibodeaux will once again be held out of practice on Wednesday as the New York Giants begin on-field preparations for their NFL Week 16 game on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings.
Thibodeaux, an outside linebacker, has not played or practiced since Week 10 due to a shoulder injury. He has missed four consecutive games.
Interim head coach Mike Kafka continued to insist on Wednesday that despite there being only three games remaining the Giants believe Thibodeaux will play again this season.
Also not practicing:
WR Beaux Collins | Neck
LB Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles | Neck/Knee
DL Rakeem Nuñez-Roches Sr. | Ankle
OLB Kayvon Thibodeaux
Gunner Olszewski clears concussion protocol
In better injury news, Kafka announced that wide receiver/return man Gunner Olszewski has cleared concussion protocol and will be back to practice. Olszewski missed Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders after taking a helmet-to-helmet hit while returning a Week 13 kickoff against the New England Patriots.
Punter Jamie Gillan, who missed Sunday’s game with a left knee injury, will practice. His status for this weekend is yet to be determined.
No plans for Evan Neal
The Giants on Tuesday opened the 21-day practice window for offensive lineman Evan Neal to return from injured reserve, where he has been recovering from a hamstring injury. Kafka said there are no current plans to get Neal playing time over the final three games.
The No. 7 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Neal has not played a snap this season. He is most likely headed to free agency during the offseason.
