Joe Burrow spoke to the media after the Cincinnati Bengals were shut out 24-0 against the Baltimore Ravens. Less than a week after comments that gave Bengals fans and media more questions than answers, Burrow put the blame for the loss squarely on his shoulders.
After two interceptions, with one of them being returned for a touchdown, Burrow said that no team in the NFL would have won with him playing quarterback Sunday. The face of the franchise had a bad day, and he owned it. It happens.
This was also the first time Burrow spoke with the media after his comments about having fun and his love for the game of football that raised eyebrows both locally and nationally.
Reports came out over the weekend that Burrow’s comments weren’t directed at the Bengals, their front office, or their coaching staff, but simply about his mindset and how he approaches playing the game. The reports stated that Burrow still believes in the people in Cincinnati’s building.
After the loss, eliminating the Bengals from playoff contention, Burrow confirmed the reports.
“My comments had nothing to do with Cincinnati. My comments had everything to do with me and my mindset and football,” Burrow told reporters.
Burrow added that he does want to play in the team’s final three games before doubling down on his responsibility for the loss.
“I want everything on my plate,” Burrow said. “That’s the position I want to be in. And, you know, I feel confident in all those guys in the locker room, like I said today, there’s not a team in the NFL that would have won the game today if I were the quarterback.”
The Bengals will take on the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, and Burrow will be taking snaps. At this point, the only reason to do that is for the love of the game.
