The Indianapolis Colts are bringing out of retirement and signing the newly turned 44-year old NFL quarterback Philip Rivers to their practice squad, now the veteran gunslinger has a shot to suit up, and just in time to assist the Los Angeles Rams as they try to win the NFC West and the NFC.
How does Rivers joining the Colts help the Rams?
Rivers joining the Colts may not help the Rams at all, but here’s how it could: Indy travels to take on the Seattle Seahawks in Week 15, and then they host the San Francisco 49ers in Week 16.
If the Colts can win either of those games against their NFC west opponents, that helps the Rams chances at taking their divisi0n. And if Rivers, who’s last NFL season was in 2020, is the quarterback to lead his team to victory against either of those teams, then that becomes a very cool story for the Rams and their fans.
Of course, Rivers didn’t sign with the Colts to help the Rams, that’s just something that could happen as a result, and regardless of who the Colts are playing, or who Seattle or San Francisco plays, the Rams can take care of their business by winning out, but any and all help that the Rams get, they’ll take.
Who cares?
If you are only a Rams fan, then the focus is that the Rams win. If you are a NFL fan, then it will be interesting to see what Rivers does (or doesn’t do) at this stage in his career and how it will impact the Colts and the season at large.
The Rams just happen to be one of the teams this signing could impact more than others.
