The Cincinnati Bengals needed to win in Buffalo to keep a realistic shot at the playoffs alive. With the Steelers and Ravens beating each other up, the Bengals led the Bills into the fourth quarter before a pair of interceptions, one of which was run back for a pick six, from Joe Burrow gave Buffalo the chance they needed.
Now the Bengals will have a losing season for the first time since 2020, when they finished with a 4-11 record and put themselves in position to select Ja’Marr Chase in the first round of the following draft.
The Bengals will finish, at best, with an 8-9 record. While it wouldn’t be impossible to make it into the playoffs with a losing record this season, they’ll need a lot of help they’re unlikely to get.
Considering the Bengals missed the playoffs in 2023, 2024, and now likely will in 2025, is the goodwill head coach Zac Taylor built up on the team’s two deep playoff runs officially gone? If so, Taylor’s seat could be burning hot.
Then again, Marvin Lewis stayed in Cincinnati for 16 years and never won a playoff game. Taylor has coached the Bengals to five postseason wins, so the idea he’d get fired is kind of hard to believe.
