The Las Vegas Raiders host the Denver Broncos on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 1:05 p.m. PT. Here are five keys to victory for the Raiders:
Run the ball well:
It’s been obvious that the running game has been a big problem this season. It continued in Week 13 as the Raiders had just 31 rushing yards in a loss to the Chargers in Greg Olson’s first game as the interim offensive coordinator, replacing the fired Chip Kelly. The Raiders have rushed for less than 75 yards in the past four games and have had less than 100 yards on the ground in all but two of their games. Yes, Denver has a rugged defense, but getting Ashton Jeanty going is key Sunday.
Make it rough on Bo Nix again:
Denver quarterback Bo Nix has been far from perfect this season for the 10-2 Broncos, but he makes plays when needed. The Raiders gave him the business pretty good in a 10-7 loss at Denver in Week 10. They need to do it again.
Be better on third down:
The Raiders were dreadful on third down on both sides of the ball against the Chargers. Los Angeles converted its first six times on third down and went 12 for 17 overall. On offense, the Raiders weren’t much better as they went 2 for 8 on third down. That’s no way to win a game.
Stop Harvey:
The Raiders’ run defense lagged against the Chargers as they allowed 192 yards on the ground as Kimani Vidal became the first rusher to break the 100-yards barrier against Las Vegas this season as he finished with 126 rushing yards. The Broncos will likely try to do the same with rookie RJ Harvey. So, the Raiders have to address this area.
Feed Bowers:
In the first meeting this season, Raiders’ star tight end Brock Bowers had just one catch for 31 yards. It was the only game in his short career where he didn’t have multiple receptions. Olson needs to get the ball more to Bowers if the Raiders offense is going to have a chance against Denver’s defense.
