Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles news and links …
Eagles’ Jordan Mailata says this isn’t 2023 again – NBCSP
“I’ll tell you right now: This is nowhere near close to 2023,” left tackle Jordan Mailata said on 94WIP on Monday night. “Let’s nip that in the bud right there. At least, as a player in the locker room that was part of the 2023 team and part of this team. It’s nowhere near. Nowhere near.” Why does Mailata feel that way? “I’m telling you now,” Mailata said. “The way we go about our practice, the detail. Although we’re not winning games. I shouldn’t even say that. We’ve won eight games. I shouldn’t even say that. I think the way we attack every day with the attention to detail. I would probably say the detail right now is our in-game execution. That is lacking. Now, we can go back to practice and that will probably be a big emphasis of putting ourselves in these situations where they keep hurting us in games. That’s all you can do. I feel like that wasn’t there in ’23. It’s there this year. The coaching technique, it’s there this year. It wasn’t there in ’23. So I just want to dead it, if you know where that came from. I want to dead it right then and there. Maybe as a fan. But I can tell you now, as a player, this is completely different from 2023. I don’t even want to go there. I kind of said that earlier in the year. Week 1, Week 2 or Week 3? I said it during the year and I was like, ‘What an idiot.’ I don’t even know why I said that. It’s not even true. Because even the way we go about practice. Padded practices, no walkthrough Wednesdays. The only walkthrough Wednesdays we’ve had are during the short weeks. And that’s all we had.”
Eagles-Bears Film Review: Philly’s defense looks exhausted – BGN
This was an incredibly disappointing defensive performance, not because the Chicago Bears have a bad offense, but because the Philadelphia Eagles looked unprepared. You could sense the emotional and physical fatigue of playing two massive-snap games in six days, including 47 first-half snaps! Chicago ran for 281 yards, and it didn’t feel like fluke production. Watching the Bears’ run game compared to the Eagles’ felt like comparing two different sports.
NFC East Mixtape Vol. 179: Cowboys Are Surging, Eagles Are 2023-ing – BGN YouTube
The Dallas Cowboys are winners of three in a row and the Philadelphia Eagles are on the verge of falling all the way apart. It has made for a fascinating situation within the NFC East as December football arrives which means some fascinating talk on the NFC East Mixtape! Join RJ Ochoa and Brandon Gowton as they assess the situation within the division and do their best to figure out what the next few weeks are going to look like!
Nick Sirianni got a lot of face time. He said lots of good things, mainly focusing on the value of adversity. Jalen Hurts said good things. The messaging is what you want out of the leaders. The problem is that the message felt hollow. Sirianni spoke to the team after the Dallas loss and talked about the need to focus on the Bears. Block out everything else and focus on the Bears. Go win that game. Unfortunately the players did not listen. There was mistake after mistake. They were made by the offense, defense and STs. Everyone had a hand in that mess. It doesn’t look great for the team to be so sloppy in such an important situation.
Week 13 DVOA Ratings: Seahawks Return to No. 1 – FTN Fantasy
Houston, Buffalo and San Francisco all move up with the Eagles dropping from eighth to 11th this week. [BLG Note: The Los Angeles Chargers rank 17th in DVOA, six spots below the Birds.]
NFL offensive line rankings ahead of Week 14 – PFF
The Eagles bounced back on Black Friday despite a loss: The team’s offensive line surrendered just four pressures to the Bears’ pass rush, moving the unit back into the top five of these rankings. […] 5) Philadelphia Eagles (Up 3). Philadelphia’s offensive line surrendered only four pressures on 32 pass attempts, headlined by no sacks and one quarterback hit, en route to a 93.7 PFF pass-blocking efficiency rating (third best). Fred Johnson stood out in Week 13 in place of the injured Lane Johnson, leading the Eagles with a 79.2 PFF pass-blocking grade after not allowing a single pressure against Chicago. Best player: Jordan Mailata. Mailata is on pace to earn only a 74.5 PFF run-blocking grade this season, which would be his lowest mark since his rookie campaign.
NFL Week 14 latest buzz, questions, news and fantasy tips – ESPN
Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert, who had surgery Monday to repair the fracture in his left hand suffered in Sunday’s game against the Raiders, still hopes to be able to play Monday against the Eagles, but the team has to assess what he can and can’t do once it gets on the practice field Thursday. Coach Jim Harbaugh said they’d use backup Trey Lance for some first-team practice reps in goal-line situations, where they want the quarterback to be under center; Herbert’s hand might not let him take snaps from under center. If the Chargers decide the hand — braced or bandaged, however it might have to be for the game — won’t allow Herbert to function in enough basic ways or protect himself if he falls, then they would just go with Lance as the starter Monday. But I’m told Herbert is going to do what he can to play and believes he can get there.
Chargers RB Omarion Hampton expected to play on MNF – Bolts From The Blue
Now the Bears objectively have a better offensive line than the Chargers do right now. That group is led by a strong interior trio that head coach Ben Johnson signed this past offseason. The Chargers…well…they didn’t invest all that much into the interior blocking/protection and their lone signing there hasn’t exactly panned out. Still, Vidal has been productive enough behind several different offensive line combinations while Hampton showed the ability to churn out the tough yards no matter who was blocking in front of him. Either way, the Chargers have to come ready to fight and claw, regardless of the narratives surrounding the Eagles as of late.
Steelers release Darius Slay – Behind The Steel Curtain
Slay has struggled consistently throughout the 2025 season. Per NextGenStats, he has allowed 26 receptions for 302 yards for a passer rating of 103.7. The Steelers made Slay a healthy scratch for Week 13 against the Buffalo Bills, elevating Asante Samuel Jr. to the active roster to make his Steelers debut. The Steelers signed Slay in March. He helped the Philadelphia Eagles win the Super Bowl in 2024.
No matter how the season ends, Brian Schottenheimer has earned more – Blogging The Boys
We’ll never know just how hot Schotty’s seat was going into this season. It’s an odd thing to say about a first-year coach, especially given Jerry Jones’ history with head coaches. Even Dave Campo got three years. But as the window is ever closing for the Cowboys to return to glory during his lifetime, Jerry’s patience must be shrinking with it. If Schottenheimer had been an unmitigated disaster, who knows if he’d have seen a second year? At this point, we’re far from anything disastrous. If anything, now that the defense is back to solvency and things seem to have gelled across the board, things are looking up. The team’s resilience since the bye has been inspiring, especially in the wake of Marshawn Kneeland’s death. And while there’s no lack of leadership on the roster, players consistently give credit to Schottenheimer for his role in keeping things together.
2025 Commanders’ Tank Watch – Week 14 – Hogs Haven
In last week’s official kickoff of the Tank Watch, we saw how the Commanders could not move any further up the draft order on their own. They would require assistance from the two-win teams ahead of them. As unlikely as that seemed at the time, they got their wish on Sunday, when the 2-9 Jets beat the Falcons. The win brought the Jets’ record to 3-9 and caused them to fall behind the Commanders by virtue of a slightly stronger Strength of Schedule (SOS). As a result, the Commanders moved up one spot to sixth place in the draft order. Had the Commanders converted the two-point attempt for the win, they would have dropped to tenth place, between the Falcons (whose pick belongs to the Rams) and the Bengals. A lot can still change, and probably will, before the season ends. But the Commanders are currently on pace to have a shot at one of the elite prospects in the draft or a valuable top ten pick to attract strong trade offers, giving Adam Peters more draft picks to work with.
NY Giants’ rookie Abdul Carter is learning a lot about ‘being a man’ – Big Blue View
Very little has gone according to plan for the New York Giants in 2025. They’re 2-11, have fired their head coach and defensive coordinator as they head into yet another off-season on the coaching carousel. That record — or the consequences — might not be much of a surprise. But the fact that the Giants’ defense has been the team’s Achilles’ heel counts as a definite surprise. The Giants’ decision to draft Penn State edge defender Abdul Carter with the third overall pick was widely praised as “chalk”. That is, so obvious a move that Joe Schoen would have been roundly criticized if he hadn’t drafted Carter. But while Carter has been disruptive, he has yet to come close to living up to expectations. That’s culminated in Carter being benched to start the game against the Green Bay Packers, and now for the entire first quarter against the New England Patriots.
Schoen was asked on Tuesday why Daboll was held accountable but he seemingly has not. “My hand’s in it just like Brian’s. Ownership made a decision to move on and, again, I’m going to control what I can control and that’s support (interim HC Mike) Kafka moving forward,” Schoen said. “I wish Dabs nothing but the best, and we’re going to do everything we can to get this franchise back to where it should be.” Schoen appeared to have entered a make-or-break offseason this past winter after the Giants went 3-14 in 2024. When told that the franchise is in the same position now as it was a year ago, Schoen pointed to a young nucleus of talent that should provide reason for optimism. The Giants appear to have hit on a potential franchise QB after trading back into the first round to select Jaxson Dart, and rookie running back Cam Skattebo was a brief sensation out of the backfield before he suffered a season-ending injury. Wide receiver Malik Nabers had a standout rookie season in 2024 before a knee injury ended his sophomore season in September. “We do have a good, young quarterback that’s on a rookie contract for the next four years,” Schoen said. “That’s when it gets fun — when you’re building around a young quarterback, you have a good nucleus, you have a good left tackle, you have a wide receiver that had a historic year in his rookie season, you got a good running back room, you got good pass rushers. There are pieces in place, and I do understand the question. I do have confidence in our ability and our process to find the next coach to lead the organization.”
What analytics predict about NFL’s contenders and pretenders – SB Nation
No. 1: There is no “elite” team this year. The Rams are about as close as you’ll get to a top tier team, but even so they sit at the cusp of the first and second tier. This isn’t that surprising in the scheme of things. It’s rare to truly have an ideal team, and since EPA tiering began in 2016 there’s only been one true “Tier 1” team that has dominated both offensively and defensively in the regular season, and that’s the 2019 Baltimore Ravens, who boasted the No. 2 offense in the NFL, the No. 4 defense, and dramatically crashed out in the playoffs to the Titans in the shocker.
