Other Giant observations
If Giants claim to uphold a standard with players, tell us what that is | The Record
The New York Giants continue to refuse to accept the fallout from their own actions − even those made in the franchise’s best interests − and the simple response is this:
Why?
Holding players accountable is not just having a willingness to reprimand actions viewed as counterproductive to the mission of the team in its entirety. We all witnessed what transpired with Giants rookie Abdul Carter for the second time in three weeks, sidelined for the start of the game, this time for the entire first quarter, and it is what it is.

Off the field, though, scouts questioned his maturity and consistency. Several evaluators believed he would need a strong organizational structure around him to reinforce professional habits. “You knew you’d have to deal with some BS,” one coach who scouted him said. A scout added that Carter sometimes acted as if certain rules didn’t apply to him. He was never “belligerent” or “disrespectful,” one general manager said, but teams flagged the need for oversight.
The problem for the Giants is that early-season missteps were tolerated far too often, leaving the interim staff to play catch-up. And so far, they’ve failed to pull Carter back on track.
Keeping Jaxson Dart on the field the top assignment for next Giants coach | The Athletic
Dart remains aggressive to a fault, and so far in his young career, nothing and no one has gotten through to him to persuade him to change his ways. Not even his teammates.
“I told him earlier today, ‘Let’s be smart, protect ourselves,’” offensive lineman Jon Runyan said after the Giants’ 33-15 loss to New England. “And obviously, he’s not going to listen because he’s just so competitive and loves the contact and (it’s) just how he is. And we’re just gonna have to keep talking to him. Maybe he’ll listen to us one of these days.”
Troy Aikman troubled by Jaxson Dart’s play style as QB endures another crushing hit in injury return | New York Post
“When I watch him, and this is going back, he reminds me so much of Jim McMahon. The way in which he plays. He just rallies the team,” Aikman said. “I’m worried about him … He just has to be able to protect himself a little better than he has…It’s just Dart trying to get a little bit extra, and he has to protect himself. And he’s a target.”
Ex-NFL player Jeff Saturday had a warning for Giants’ quarterback Jaxson Dart after his latest close calls in Monday night’s 33-15 loss at the New England Patriots.
“You’re coming off a concussion,” Saturday, who won Super Bowl XLI with the Indianapolis Colts, said of Dart on “SportsCenter” Tuesday morning. “You understand what’s at risk early in the game, like, but let’s just not have it. It’s not about will [his teammates] defend you and fight for you. [They] absolutely will, but don’t continue to risk yourself for plays like that. We don’t need it, and…begin to play a little bit differently to protect yourself.”
An Early Guide to Helping Jaxson Dart and Fixing the New York Giants in 2026 | Bleacher Report
It may not look like it given their record, but the Giants have some pieces to build around—the most important being a promising young quarterback in Dart. Now the team has to walk a tightrope of sorts, balancing being aggressive in adding around him while Dart is still on a rookie deal with filling a myriad of needs on both sides of the ball.
Step 1 is finding the guy to lead the team next year (as groan-inducing as it will likely be from fans, a steady hand like McCarthy is Big Blue’s best bet). Get Dart a coach. Get him help on offense and a defense that can actually occasionally make a stop. Do that, and there will be just one more step in propelling the brash young quarterback toward more success in Year 2.
Dart’s ability to check into the right play is a plus

X factor for final stretch: Linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux. Thibodeaux missed his third straight game Monday night because of a shoulder injury, and he has just 2.5 sacks in 10 games. The edge rusher started 2025 strong, but the injury has hurt his value moving forward. Thibodeaux has a fifth-year option in 2026, but he could have been up for a new contract had this season gone well. Now, it will be interesting to see how he finishes on the field. It could go a long way in determining his future with the team.
What happened on Younghoe Koo’s kick? Plus the most elite NFL units. | The Athletic
That’s not what happened, according to Koo, who said his refusal to kick was intentional. With most eyes trained on Koo’s foot, it was easy to miss the bobbled snap by holder Jamie Gillan, who was moving the ball as Koo went to kick.
“I was approaching the ball and … the ball kind of slipped out at the bottom so it was moving,” said Koo. “I wasn’t able to kick through the ball. The ball was moving when I was driving to it, so I just pulled up on it. Jamie did a good job of catching it and putting it back, but, at that point, it was too late.”

NFL mock draft 2026: 4 QBs in first round, plus the Arch Manning dilemma | SB Nation
While we might not see five consecutive defensive players this year — more on that in a moment — with the Titans and Giants currently sitting in the top two spots it is likely we get non-quarterbacks to open the draft. In this mock, Tennessee adds pass rusher Rueben Bain Jr. while the Giants bolster their defense with linebacker Arvell Reese, one of the best all-around prospects in the class.
