Being on top is a fleeting moment, as the Los Angeles Rams can attest to: This is the first time that the Rams have truly been on top since they won the Super Bowl four years ago. The Rams not only rank first in DVOA, which is Defense-adjusted Value Over Average (think of it as a point system that assigns value per play based on game situation), but they hold the top spot on both offense AND defense.
“The Rams are the new no. 1 team in DVOA,” writes FootballOutsiders founder Aaron Schatz. “The Rams are slightly now no. 1 on both offense (over Colts) and defense (over Texans).”
Fittingly, the Rams have defeated both the Texans and the Colts this season.
ESPN’s Peter Schrager went on The Pat McAfee Show on Monday and noted that the Rams have not trailed since the first quarter of their win over the Ravens in Week 6. That’s 23 quarters since L.A. last trailed in a game:
5 of their last 6 wins have come against teams currently in the playoffs. The Ravens happen to be the new leaders of the AFC North, winners of five straight games since they lost to the Rams.
The Rams are also the new favorites to win the Super Bowl, sporting 57% odds to earn the NFC’s number one seed, per FTN Fantasy. L.A. has a 26.7% chance to win the Super Bowl, which is 11.5% points higher than second-place Indianapolis. The Seahawks are third at 13.5%.
FTN gives the Rams 60% odds to reach the NFC Championship game and 40% odds to reach the Super Bowl.
In winning six in a row, the Rams now have the number one scoring defense in the league at 16.3 points per game. They are third in points per drive allowed and fifth in points per drive on offense. Matthew Stafford is the new MVP favorite, having thrown 25 touchdowns since his last interception.
Wyatt Miller notes that the Rams have been winning comfortably over teams during their winning streak:
Not only does Stafford had 7 more touchdowns than second place, the Rams have the NFL’s leader in catches (Puka Nacua, 80) and touchdowns (Davante Adams, 12) and they finally hold the number one seed. L.A.‘s even in a strong position in 2026, already holding the Falcons first round pick, in addition to their own, and nearly $100 million in cap space.
Being the consensus best team in the league is rare and should be appreciated any time it happens. ESPN’s Sarah Barshop notes that the Rams haven’t been Super Bowl favorites since 2018!
Being called “#1” is neat. Closing out as #1 is the goal.
