One day after the Miami Dolphins placed cornerback JuJu Brents on injured reserve and poached another defensive back off the Los Angeles Rams practice squad, the team has once again made a move on the defensive side of the ball.
According to the Miami Dolphins, the team has placed safety Jordan Colbert on the injured reserve list. The 25-year-old defensive back out of Rhode Island signed with Miami in 2024 as an undrafted free agent.
Earlier this year, Colbert moved to linebacker, a move that linebackers coach and run-game coordinator Joe Barry seemed excited about. Here’s what he said back on October 16th during his weekly press conference.
“(Colbert) has great athleticism. He was always on the bigger side of safeties. And we just felt that, with his skill set and physicality… if he had any future in the National Football League, it was going to be at linebacker.”
Barry continued: “That’s always one of those guys, too, Barry (Jackson), that you hope we’re around and he’s around to have a chance to have him in the offseason. Because it’s hard when you move a player during the season, I’m talking drastic position change from backend safety to inside linebacker… that’s hard to do in-season. I think he’s going to make his strides… if he does become an NFL linebacker… he’s going to make his strides in the offseason. That’s an OTA project… we made the decision to put him there, get him practice reps every day… every snap of the simulated defense that our offense goes against every day, he’s playing linebacker. So he’s getting meaningful reps.”
Colbert has five total tackles throughout his career, but after re-listening to Joe Barry’s comments, I can’t help but be intrigued to see what he can become IF he’s given another chance in Miami AND IF this coaching staff remains in place.
NOTE: Placing Colbert on injured reserve now leaves a roster spot available if/when the Dolphins plan to bring back Austin Jackson or another player on injured reserve. ///
What are your thoughts on Jordan Colbert, the safety or linebacker? Do you hope Austin Jackson returns from injured reserve? How awesome was it to see the Buffalo Bills and Josh Allen flounder last night? Let us know in the comments section below!
