Jaxson Dart injury: NY Giants’ QB returning to practice on Wednesday

New York Giants’ quarterback Jaxson Dart, who missed Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers, with a concussion, took the next step in the NFL concussion protocol on Wednesday by participating in a non-contact practice.

Dart stretched with teammates last Friday, but this will be his first real practice action since suffering his concussion Week 10 against the Chicago Bears. This would indicate that Dart is trending toward being available Sunday when the Giants face the Detroit Lions in a Week 12 matchup.

RB Eric Gray back to practice

With Cam Skattebo out for the season and Tyrone Tracy having missed games earlier in the year with a shoulder injury, the Giants have dressed just two running backs in many games this season.

That may be about to change, but not in the way many fans have been clamoring for.

Interim head coach Mike Kafka announced on Wednesday that the Giants have opened the 21-day practice window for running back Eric Gray.

Gray, a third-year running back, has been on the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list all season due to a knee injury.

In two seasons, Gray has carried 31 times for 79 yards (2.5 yards per carry), caught 16 passes for 104 yards (6.5 yards per catch), returned seven punts for an average 4.0 yards, and returned 21 kickoffs for an average of 24.5 yards.

The Giants currently have an open roster spot after waiving Tomon Fox on Monday. Many fans have been calling for the Giants to elevate running back Dante ‘Turbo’ Miller from the practice squad. That has not happened, and the Gray news would indicate that it is not likely to happen.

Paulson Adebo, Kayvon Thibodeaux not practicing

  • Edge defender Kayvon Thibodeaux (shoulder) and cornerback Paulson Adebo (knee) did not practice. If they cannot play Sunday, this would be two straight missed games for Thibodeaux and five straight for Adebo.
  • Wide receiver Darius Slayton (hamstring) worked on the side with trainers.
  • Defensive tackle Rakeem Nunez-Roches (toe), defensive lineman Chauncey Golston (neck), and safety Tyler Nubin (neck) were limited.
