Week 3 of the 2024 NFL season caps off with not one, but two games. The night starts with Jacksonville Jaguars taking on the Buffalo Bills at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN. The Washington Commanders will go on the road to take on the Cincinnati Bengals at 8:15 p.m.
The 2-0 Bills are looking to keep their undefeated streak alive, and not only stay in the lead of their division, but keep pace for the No.1 seed in the AFC. The Jaguars, meanwhile, are still trying to find traction this year. They fell to 0-2 to start the season and are looking for a win on the road to avert a disaster.
The Jaguars will be without one of their best weapons, former Giants TE Evan Engram (hamstring), as well as safety Darnell Savage (quad) and CB Tyson Campbell. The Bills, meanwhile, will be without starting MIKE linebacker Terrel Bernard and slot corner Taron Johnson.
The Bills come into the game as 5.5-point favorites per FanDuel Sportsbook.
The Bengals, meanwhile have gotten off to a rocky 0-2 start, losing close games to the New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs. Losing to the Chiefs is certainly forgivable, but losing to the Pats is a problem. They’ve dealt with injuries throughout their roster, and their offensive line remains a persistent problem.
Washington, meanwhile, is coming off an unlikely win over the Giants in Week 2. But while rookie QB Jayden Daniels is promising, they have issues all over their roster — and on the defense in particular.
The Bengals are 7.5-point favorites to.
Chris’ Pick: I’m tempted to go with the Jaguars here, and I think this winds up being a closer game than the spread would suggest — maybe a field goal or less. The Jags seemed to get in a groove in the second half against the Browns last week and almost executed the comeback. This game could be very interesting if they can carry the momentum over and build on it. However, the Bills are just a tough team when they’re rolling and Buffalo is a tough place to play at any time.
Buffalo’s defense is a bit beat up without linebacker Matt Milano, as well as Bernard, and Johnson, but Josh Allen does enough to put the game away.
For the later game, I’m going Bengals all the way.
Washington’s pass defense has been very, very bad this year, giving up a 0.520 EPA/play on dropbacks. Joe Burrow should dissect their secondary, which could make Jayden Daniels’ life very interesting if he has to throw to keep up.
