How about them Dolphins?!
It isn’t often we get to celebrate a Miami victory over the often dominant Buffalo Bills, but after Sunday’s 30-13 shellacking of Josh Allen, James Cook and company, keep your party hats on, Dolfans, because you’ve got a few more days of jubilant activity to partake in.
While we celebrate, Dolphins players and coaches had to cut their celebrations short, as a trip to Madrid, Spain to battle the wounded Washington Commanders forced Miami’s players and coaches to get their minds focused on Sunday’s important contest just one day removed from a satisfying victory.
We won’t look too far into Miami’s future, but with games against the Commanders, New Orleans Saints and New York Jets on the horizon, the Dolphins’ 2025 season might just get a little more interesting in the coming weeks…
Fins Up
This week’s Fins Up player is cornerback JuJu Brents. Brents came to Miami after the Indianapolis Colts cut the former second-round pick ahead of the regular season this year. After playing sparingly throughout the season for the Dolphins, Brents was called upon to take a large number of snaps against Buffalo on Sunday with starter Rasul Douglas missing the game, and the 25-year-old stepped up in a major way.
Brents totaled five tackles, a pass breakup and a fumble recovery against the Bills, as his large 6’2” frame allowed the young cornerback to wreak havoc in Miami’s secondary all afternoon long.
Brents’ Pro Football Focus grade of 79.6 was Miami’s second best on defense for the contest — a number that reflects a standout performance that should earn the third-year player some more playing time as the season continues to unfold.
Fins Down
This week’s Fins Down player is another young player in Miami’s secondary — cornerback Ethan Bonner. Bonner checked into the game after a brief exit from Brents and immediately gave up a long touchdown reception to Bills wide receiver Keon Coleman.
Bonner has received plenty of praise for his practice performances in Miami Gardens over the past couple of seasons, but those intrasquad showings have not translated to games, as the speedy cornerback has struggled when taking the field in between injuries.
With the Dolphins having one foot in evaluation mode this season, Bonner’s play through the team’s final seven games will prove if he belongs in Miami’s plans beyond 2025.
