With all of the attention still focused on Monday’s firing of Brian Daboll as head coach, the business of the New York Giants continued on Tuesday. The previously reported signing of placekicker Ben Sauls became official, but it was not the only thing the Giants did.
The Giants also added tight end Zach Davidson to their practice squad. A 2021 fifth-round pick by the Minnesota Vikings, the only regular season action the 27-year-old Davidson has seen is two games last season with the Buffalo Bills.
The Giants have four tight ends on their 53-man roster — Theo Johnson, Daniel Bellinger, Chris Manhertz and rookie Thomas Fidone.
The Giants also held a defensive back-heavy workout on Tuesday. Working out were:
S Micah Abernathy
LB Trace Ford
S Tysheem Johnson
CB Myles Purchase
Ford, an edge defender who finished his collegiate career at Oklahoma, was with the Giants during training camp.
Abernathy, 28, has 20 games of NFL experience with the Green Bay Packers and Atlanta Falcons from 2022-2024.
Johnson is a 23-year-old who went undrafted in April.
Purchase, 22, is a 5-foot-9, 203-pound cornerback who went undrafted. He spent part of this season on the Los Angeles Chargers’ practice squad.
