Some good news for the Vikings

Fans of the Minnesota Vikings have been waiting all day for news about Sam Darnold, and just a short time ago we finally got it.

It was the best possible news we could have hoped for.

After having an MRI done on his knee today, Darnold was found to have suffered a bruised knee but did not sustain any structural damage and is not expected to miss any time.

Darnold went down on a low hit from Danielle Hunter in the third quarter of the Vikings’ 34-7 victory over the Houston Texans on Sunday afternoon at U.S. Bank Stadium. He hobbled around a bit and eventually went back down to the turf as the crowd in Minneapolis sat silent. He went off the field but missed just one play before returning and finishing the game.

The team got Darnold an MRI as a precautionary measure, but fans of the Vikings. . .at least those who would qualify as “very online”. . .have been on pins and needles awaiting the results. After all, it wasn’t that long ago that rookie J.J. McCarthy put together a nice NFL debut and a day or two later was on injured reserve following a meniscus injury. With Vikings fans seemingly perpetually in wait for the proverbial other shoe to drop, it’s nice that we’ve gotten some positive news on Darnold.

Through the first three weeks of the season, Darnold leads the NFL in touchdown passes, including putting up four in Sunday’s win. He’s the first quarterback in Vikings history to lead the team to a 3-0 start while throwing multiple touchdown passes in each game, according to NFL Research.

Great news on Sam Darnold, as it looks like he’ll be ready to go for his first-ever Border Battle when the Vikings travel to Green Bay this Sunday afternoon.
