Teams had heavy interest in Miami Dolphins RB De’Von Achane ahead of 2025 NFL Trade Deadline

The NFL Trade deadline is one of the most exciting times of the year, and this year’s deadline was no different. Unless, of course, you’re a Miami Dolphins fan who had high hopes of offloading some of the veteran players who don’t necessarily have a future with the team.

Miami sent pass-rusher Jaelan Phillips to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a 2026 third-round pick. The team took on a bulk of the contract, making the move a bit of a head-scratcher, but not out of the ordinary if the team had no interest in signing him long-term.

Rumors swirled about wide receiver Jaylen Waddle potentially being moved. The Dolphins apparently wanted at least a first-round pick and then some for their future WR1. Bradley Chubb was also almost shipped out, but like Phillips, the team would’ve had to take on a large part of his contract, and teams weren’t willing to part with the picks Miami wanted.

And then, there was running back De’Von Achane. A player who, quite literally, is the team’s most explosive playmaker — and I was saying that back when Tyreek Hill was still healthy.

So far in 2025, Achane started all nine games for the Dolphins, carrying the ball 121 times for 606 yards and three touchdowns. He also caught 43 of 60 passes for 274 yards and four touchdowns — a complete player, much like that back out in San Francisco. Achane can do it all, but what does a player of his caliber fetch in the open market?

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, a 2nd-round pick and then some was the asking price, but teams weren’t willing to meet with Miami’s demands.

” Sources say the Dolphins received significant interest in running back De’VonAchane. It seems the speedy 24-year-old generated as many phone calls as anyone, with Miami settling a second-round pick and more as the price. That never came, thanks in part to Achane being in a contract year and due for a significant payday. But there was plenty of intrigue for Achane. “

Maybe I’m crazy, but like Waddle, I believe Achane is a vital building piece to this offense. Yes, Miami — or whatever team acquires him — will have to pay him a monster contract, but has he not proven to the world that he deserves it? And yeah, I know, I know, “RUnNiNg BaCkS aRe A DiMe A DoZeN” except backs like Achane are not.

Ultimately, Achane wasn’t moved, which I believe is a blessing in disguise. Like Waddle, this could be something we revisit in the offseason, but for now, Achane is staying home. And, IMO, that’s more important than any second-round draft pick and then some.

What are your thoughts on the Miami Dolphins ’ interest in moving running back De’Von Achane ahead of the trade deadline for a second-round draft pick? Am I just being a homer to think that would have been great value? Do you believe Achane and Jaylen Waddle are key pieces to the team’s future, or would you be willing to part with either for the right price? Let us know in the comments section below!
