Grading Highlight of the Week: RB Stevie Scott III, Montreal Alouettes
The Alouettes walked away from the East Division semifinals with a 42-33 win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and the play of Stevie Scott III was one of the biggest reasons why. He finished with an 86.6 overall PFF grade, the highest of any non-quarterback last week.
Scott was excellent as a rusher, putting up a league-high 133 yards on just 18 carries. What’s most impressive about that mark is that 106 of those yards came after first contact. Scott was hit early on most of his carries, but he forced nine missed tackles, the highest total in the CFL by far.
Of his 18 carries, 10 of them were given an above-average grade, while three others received excellent grades. That’s a 72.2% positively-graded rush rate, which led to an 88.2 PFF rushing grade.
Scott also caught three passes for 29 yards and two first downs as a receiver. While those aren’t poor numbers, his PFF receiving grade was just 64.8. That’s because receiving grade takes into account the number of routes run and a player’s target percentage, not to mention what actually transpired on those receptions.
Scott ran 29 pass routes, and caught just those three passes. One of them was tackled for a loss, while the other two were scramble drill catches in which he was left uncovered and picked up the first down after the catch. They were good plays, but not great plays, so his grade wasn’t boosted very high.
However, with his excellent rushing grade, that was more than enough to carry his overall grade to the high mark that it was.
