Giants NFL trade rumors: Miami WR Jaylen Waddle back in play for New York?

Could the dominoes that will fall after the Miami Dolphins and GM Chris Grier parted ways on Friday morning end up landing in a way that will benefit the New York Giants? Perhaps, if Miami wide receiver Jaylen Waddle is now available on the trade market.

One of the reasons that has been given for the Dolphins moving on from Grier now and making Champ Kelly the interim general manager is that Grier, perhaps trying to salvage both his job and that of beleaguered head coach Mike McDaniel, had been reluctant to part with several veteran players who have drawn interest from other NFL teams.

The Dolphins fell to 2-7 with a lopsided 28-6 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night. With the Tuesday, Nov. 4 NFL trade deadline just a few days away, perhaps the Dolphins have decided that it is time to sell whatevr they can.

The Giants have been said to be scouring the market to find wide receiver help with Malik Nabers lost for the season, leaving Jaxson Dart and the Giants with a dearth of reliable pass-catching wide receivers.

Waddle, 26, was the No. 6 overall pick by Miami in the 2021 NFL Draft. He had 1,000-yard receiving seasons in each of his first three seasons, including 1,356 in 2022, when he led the league by averaging 18.1 yards per catch.

This season, Waddle had 41 receptions for 586 yards.

GM Joe Schoen and the Giants should not be looking for a 2025 rental. They should be looking for someone who can team with Nabers once he returns from his torn ACL in 2026. Waddle signed a three-year, $84.75 million extension with the Dolphins that keeps him under contract through 2028. There is an out in the deal after the 2027 season.

Trade proposal

The Giants do not have a third-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, and that makes a deal for a player like Waddle a bit more complicated. Here is my idea:

Giants get: Waddle
Dolphins get: 2027 second-round pick, wide receiver Jalin Hyatt

Would you make that trade, Giants fans?
