The Philadelphia Eagles are back at Lincoln Financial Field to take on the same New York Giants team that beat them just 17 days ago. Despite that loss, and despite entering this game with multiple key injuries (A.J. Brown and Cam Jurgens among others), the Birds are 7.5-point home favorites.
If the Eagles are able to win, they’ll advance to 6-2 ahead of their Week 9 bye. A second loss to the Giants drops the Eagles to 5-3 and raises serious questions about this team’s ceiling in 2025.

FIRST QUARTER UPDATES
- The Giants won the opening coin toss and elected to defer. Will Shipley took a knee in the end zone to put the Eagles at their own 35-yard line (after Smael Mondon was flagged for illegal formation but then it was picked up). Jalen Hurts stepped up against pressure and could’ve ran but instead threw to DeVonta Smith, who couldn’t make the catch on a comeback effort. The Eagles’ first running play was a Saquon Barkley carry from under center (!) with six offensive linemen on the field (!) where he got his best blocking of the year (great job by the left side of the offensive line) to get into open space and to the end zone for a 65-yard touchdown! Running game back!? EAGLES 7, GIANTS 0.
- The Giants took over at their own 31-yard line. Facing 3rd-and-10 after Jalyx Hunt tackled a scrambling Jaxson Dart from behind to limit the quarterback to a one-yard gain, Dart’s third down pass was a bubble screen for a loss. Strong start by Vic Fangio’s defense to force the three-and-out.
- The Eagles took over at their own 25-yard line. Barkley ran for five yards and then Tank Bigsby (!) took a carry for 18 yards and a first down. Hurts completed a pass over the middle to DeVonta for a first down but it was wiped out by a Lane Johnson holding penalty. The combination of a Barkley run and a Barkley screen reception moved the chains into plus territory. Facing 3rd-and-3, Hurts scrambled for no gain. Facing 4th-and-3, Nick Sirianni correctly kept the offense on the field … and Dexter Lawrence jumped offside but Brett Toth was called for a false start though it was Tyler Steen who moved early. Jake Elliott came on for the 58-yard field goal attempt …. and the ball bounced off the right upright. No good. The Eagles seemed to be upset there was a whistle blown during the kick. Refs gathered after the play but nothing came of it.
- The Giants took over at their own 48-yard line. They went 52 yards in six plays with Patrick Johnson falling in coverage to leave Cam Skattebo wide open for a touchdown catch. Refs missed a holding penalty on Nakobe Dean. EAGLES 7, GIANTS 7.
- The Eagles took over at their own 47 after a good 41-yard kick return by Will Shipley. Facing 3rd-and-4 after Xavier Gipson (!) took a jet sweep carry, Hurts had plenty of time to throw but hit Barkley for just one yard. Facing 4th-and-3, Sirianni kept the offense on the field and Hurts scrambled up the middle for a first down. With the first quarter clock running out and the offense trying to see if they could get the Giants to jump offside, the Eagles committed a false start themselves. Very dumb.
SECOND QUARTER UPDATES
- Operating from under center, Hurts hit a crossing DeVonta over the middle for a 26-yard gain into the red zone. Hurts sailed a pass over DeVonta with the wide receiver available in the end zone. Facing 3rd-and-9, Hurts took off scrambling just shy of the first down marker. Hurts took a big hit from Brian Burns along the sideline and a flag was thrown … before it got picked up via replay assist. Facing 4th-and-short, the Eagles went Brotherly Shove for the first down. The ball came out, though, and Brian Daboll threw a challenge flag for the ruling to be overturned. Giants ball.
