The Las Vegas Raiders have been struggling to stop the pass all year. They ranked 25th in EPA and are one of the worst teams on third down. It has fans questioning while Kyu Blu Kelly continues to play and get major snaps week to week.
According to Pro Football Focus, Kelly has allowed 399 yards in coverage, the most of any cornerback in the NFL. With his pedigree in the league and a young corner behind the leash, being this long is head-scratching. However, Darien Porter is waiting for his opportunity.
Porter has only allowed one catch for nine yards during his time on the field. When speaking with the Associated Press, he expressed that if he keeps working, he will earn more snaps on the field.
“I know as a rookie, there’s things that you need to improve upon, things I still learn every day,” said Porter, who has allowed just one catch on three targets for 9 yards. “So, that’s my approach. I know if I do what I should be doing day in and day out, the cards will fall where they will, and I’ll be happy with where I’m at, at the end of the day.
It will be interesting to see if Porter will get a shot at the starting cornerback job after the bye. He has been out playing Kelly and deserves to be in the starting lineup.
