During his Thursday press availability with the South Florida media, Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver was asked to give his assessment of the seasons his three main pass rushers — Bradley Chubb, Jaelan Phillips and Chop Robinson — are having in 2025, and while praising both Chubb and Phillips, Weaver had some critical words for Robinson while discussing his play this year.
“Chop has had kind of an up-and-down year. Certainly not the production you want from a pass rush standpoint… It’s not because of a lack of work. He’s had some inconsistencies in the run game that we got to clean up. There’s flashes where, yeah, this is how you want it. And there’s times when you’re like, ah, come on, man. We know better. We got to do better. And until he cleans that up, he’s going to have, kind of, the ups and downs he’s had. But I still love the kid and I know how much he wants it, and we got to get it fixed.”
After starting slow during his rookie year last year, Chop Robinson turned things on in the second half — tallying six sacks during the team’s final ten games. However, through seven games in 2025, the second-year player out of Penn State has just one sack to his name and only seven combined tackles. According to Pro Football Reference, Robinson has played just 39% of Miami’s defensive snaps in 2025 after logging 53% in 2024.
With both Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb rumored to be on the trade block, moving one or both of those players could provide Robinson with the playing time he needs to continue his professional development — something that is greatly needed on this struggling Dolphins team.
