The New York Giants’ injury list did not get any shorter on Thursday, with three starters and a total of five defensive players not practicing.
Edge defender Brian Burns (hip), safety Paulson Adebo (knee) and safety Jevon Holland (knee) did practice. Burns, notorious for battling through injuries, is the only one of the three who seems to have a good chance of playing. Reserve defensive linemen Chauncey Golston (neck) and D.J.Davidson (ankle) also did not practice.
If Adebo and Holland can’t play, the Giants will field a makeshift secondary on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles.
“We’re working through it,” defensive coordinator Shane Bowen said on Thursday. “We’ll see where Adebo’s at as we go through the week here. I mean, we got guys there. We got, obviously, we got Art (Green). We signed Korie (Black). We got Tae (Banks). You have (Cor’Dale) Flott out there. So, we got some guys that we’re working through. We’ll see where Adebo’s at. Got a couple days here to kind of work through with him and see where he’s at with everything. So, we’ll see where that goes.”
Eagles have their own injury woes
Star wide receiver A.J. Brown (hamstring) and starting center Cam Jurgens (knee) missed a second straight day of practice for Philadelphia on Thursday. Brown has had three straight 1,000-yard receiving seasons, and five in his six NFL seasons. His absence would be a break for the wounded Giants’ secondary.
