The Eagles eked out a win in New Orleans, handing the Saints their first loss of the season despite Philly’s offense failing to score until the fourth quarter. While the Eagles’ 2024 NFL Draft class wasn’t incredibly involved, one rookie played a big part in the win.
Quinyon Mitchell: A
Three games into the season and it feels like Quinyon Mitchell is already the best player in the Eagles secondary. Mitchell looks confident and there’s no gap in talent when dealing with NFL wide receivers. In this game, Mitchell had two critical pass break ups. One was on a deep pass to Rashid Shaheed which would have probably gone for a touchdown, the other was a great click and close that could’ve (should’ve?) been a pick six. Maybe next time. Mitchell looked awesome against the Saints and was crucial in the defensive effort to slow one of the hottest offenses in the league. Mitchell played a role in Shaheed having zero receptions in this game despite the fact he was targeted five times.
The Rest
- Johnny Wilson had one impressive third down catch where he broke a tackle to go for a first down. Wilson saw a lot of the field with injuries to A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith but he was mostly used as a blocker. He got called on a holding penalty and did have a bad drop on the Eagles’ final touchdown drive.
- Cooper DeJean only saw duty on special teams after Britain Covey went out with an injury. He had one punt return go for six yards.
- Will Shipley had a single kick return that went for 26 yards.
