Each week during the season, I will be walking through the data from the previous game and analyzing the numbers to form a sort of “what happened” narrative, as well as comparing the Colts against all other teams in the league. For a glossary of the stats listed, reference . Thanks to , , Pro Football Focus and the for being awesome sources of weekly data.
Ho hum — another week, another great Colts offense.
Indy had no trouble marching down the field, picking up 25 first downs and reaching the end zone four times. On the drives that did stall, they tended to stall early. Still, their 83.3% Drive Success Rate from this game ranks in the 92nd percentile for any NFL game this year.

The Colts’ 31 points translated to the 3rd-highest Points per Drive of the week. That was matched by the 3rd-highest Drive Success Rate and the #1 play conversion rate, demonstrating just how easily they moved the chains. Part of that success came from a 50% third-down conversion rate, the 4th-highest of the week.
Thanks to Buffalo stumbling against the Patriots, I have the Colts offense ranked #1 on the season — both unadjusted and after accounting for opponent strength.

Passing efficiency ranked 15th, largely due to Jones’s ill-advised interception. But he made up for it with the 3rd-highest pass play conversion rate and the 6th-best Success Rate of any team. One sack and two scrambles kept abandoned plays to a minimum — which I’m a big fan of — and three explosive gains through the air showed he was still a downfield threat.
On the season, the Colts’ passing attack ranks 7th-best among all teams after adjusting for opponent.

The rushing game was again highly efficient, posting the highest rush play conversion rate and producing two touchdowns. Both EPA per carry and yards per carry ranked 6th-best, and when accounting for situation, that translates to the 2nd-highest weighted Rush Success Rate.
On the season, I have the Colts as the league’s best rushing team — both unadjusted and after accounting for opponent strength.
CONCLUSION
The interception was by far the offense’s worst play, but outside of that, they did what they’ve done all year — roll down the field into scoring position. Both the passing and rushing games did their jobs well, and it’s exciting to see an offense that’s both good and consistent.
I think it’s clear that through six weeks, the Colts have the best offense in the NFL.
