The Miami Dolphins are 1-5, and with each passing day, the team finds a new way to disappoint its fans.
Shortly after yesterday’s 29-27 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa took to the podium to discuss the team’s shortcomings, and in a move that shocked many, he threw some of his teammates under the bus.
“We have guys showing up to players-only meetings late, guys not showing up to player-only meetings. There’s a lot that goes into that. Do we have to make this mandatory? Do we not have to make this mandatory? It’s a lot of things of that nature that we got to get cleaned up. It starts with the little things like that.”
McDaniel later echoed Tua’s sentiment and said that he believed his QB1 was sending a message to his teammates. We will find out in the coming days how that went over in the locker room with his teammates, but one former Dolphins player is speaking out on Tagovailoa’s hypocrisy.
Wide receiver DaeSean Hamilton, the former fourth-round pick in the 2018 draft, spent a few weeks on Miami’s practice squad back in December 2022. He says that Miami’s starting quarterback was late to a team meeting in his few weeks with the team, making Tagovailoa’s comments all the more bizarre.
The Dolphins have bigger problems than Tua (Chris Grier is the biggest issue, IMO), but his turnovers late in the game and less-than-stellar record vs. playoff teams remain a cause for concern. There’s also an old saying that if you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem. It pains me to say this, but Tagovailoa may be part of the problem. And there will be a time in the near future when Miami will have to make a hard decision on the player they once deemed as a franchise-changing player.
But for now, as of 2 PM ET on Monday, October 13th, the players and coaching staff continue to battle on. Changers are coming. They are inevitable. But for the players and coaches still fighting, how they finish the season could be the difference between getting another chance or fading into oblivion.
DaeSean Hamilton has faded into oblivion. But he’ll never forget the time he was in Miami and the starting QB was late to a team meeting.
What are your thoughts on Tua Tagovailoa’s post-game comments? Do you think he was right to throw some of his teammates under the bus? How do you feel knowing that Miami’s starting QB was also late to a team meeting, despite wanting to hold others accountable? Let us know in the comments section below!
