According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Jeremy Fowler, ex-Indianapolis Colts quarterback Jacoby Brissett is expected to start against his former team on Sunday in place of injured starter Kyler Murray (foot):

It didn’t look encouraging for the Cardinals starter’s availability for Sunday, when Arizona promoted backup quarterback Kedon Slovis from their practice squad to the 53-man active roster on Saturday.

Murray, who’s officially listed as ‘questionable,’ was only able to practice on Friday as a limited participant—having not practiced earlier in the week.

The former #1 overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft has completed 110 of 161 total pass attempts (68.3%) for 962 total passing yards, 6 passing touchdowns, and 3 interceptions during 5 prior starts. He’s also rushed for 173 total rushing yards on 29 carries (6.0 ypc. avg.) and a rushing touchdown.

Meanwhile the veteran who is replacing him, Jacoby Brissett, is obviously well familiar to Colts fans—having played for the franchise from 2017-20, where he made 30 career starts with Indianapolis. Since then, Brissett has been increasingly well-traveled, with later stops with the Miami Dolphins, Cleveland Browns, Washington Commanders, New England Patriots (again), and most recently, the Cardinals this season.

The 32-year-old quarterback last started in 2024 for the Patriots, where he made 5 starts. During that limited stint, he completed 95 of 161 pass attempts (59%) for 826 total passing yards, 2 passing touchdowns, and an interception. He was eventually benched in favor of Patriots’ rookie 2024 3rd overall pick Drake Maye last season and did not regain the starter’s job.

The biggest difference for veteran defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo and the Colts defense will be the downgraded mobility from Murray to Brissett, as well as a more risk adverse approach behind center.
