Welcome to the New York Giants betting angle, Week 6 edition! Each week, I’m giving you my three favorite wagers for that week’s New York Giants game. My one rule: I won’t ever give you wagers that are less than -120. No gimmes!
The Giants head home on a short week to face the division-rival Eagles on Thursday night, after stumbling in New Orleans on Sunday. Big Blue got out to an early 14-3 lead behind two TD passes from Jaxson Dart to Theo Johnson, but fell apart in the second half. The last six New York possessions all ended in turnovers (one was on downs), and the Saints took advantage and got their first win.
The Eagles also cratered at the end of their Week 5 game, and it resulted in their first loss of the season. Philly took a 17-3 lead into the fourth quarter at home against Denver, only to see the Broncos score the game’s final 18 points for an impressive 21-17 road win. The Eagles’ offense has struggled all season. 47% of their possessions have been three-and-outs, which is the worst number in the league. Yup, even worse than the Titans, Bengals, and Browns. Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, A.J. Brown, and the rest have performed miles below expectations thus far. And yet, Philadelphia is 4-1.
The Super Bowl champs will look to right the ship against a team they’ve dominated for a decade-plus. The Eagles are 19-4 against Big Blue in the last 23 meetings, and Philadelphia basically tanked one of the games the Giants won. The line is Philadelphia -7.5, with a game total of 40.5.
I crashed and burned last week (0-3) after three straight winning weeks, and my picks have fallen to right around .500 for the season. Time for a new winning streak!
Here are this week’s picks. All lines and odds are from Fanduel and are as of Wednesday, October 8.
- Eagles OVER 24.5 points (-106). The Eagles’ offense has been stagnant, boring, and predictable. They haven’t gotten Barkley going, their offensive line is banged up, and they’re having players-only closed-door meetings among their offensive stars. So why am I picking them to hit a total they’ve only hit twice in five games, and on a Thursday night no less? Because they’re overdue, and the Giants haven’t had an answer for this version of the birds. When Hurts has played, Philadelphia has gone over this total in five of the last six meetings between the teams. I think the Eagles will make a concerted effort to open things up, and to get Barkley rolling, and I don’t see New York’s inconsistent defense contending with what’s coming.
- Jaxson Dart UNDER 178.5 passing yards (-114). I like what I’ve seen from Dart, but with Darius Slayton already declared out for this game, who is he throwing to and where are the big pass plays coming from? Dart only threw for 111 yards in his first game and almost doubled that against the Saints, but I’ll be surprised if he can hit this total, even with it being modest. Philadelphia is allowing more than 200 passing yards per game, but they’ve faced some excellent passing offenses including Dallas, the Rams, Kansas City, and Tampa. Take the under here.
- Jaxson Dart OVER 7.5 rushing attempts (+102). Let’s stick with the Giants’ rookie QB, and double down. Less success passing means more running, and I think Dart will take off quite a few times on Thursday night. Some will be designed runs and some will be scrambles. Some might be Dart running for his life. His hamstring issue appears to be nothing serious. He’s got 19 rushes through two games, and I think he’ll have double-digit carries as he and the Giants try hard to figure out ways to move the ball on the Eagles.
Here’s an unofficial bonus pick for those looking for a decent plus-money bet: Saquon Barkley OR Jalen Hurts to score the game’s first TD (+155). Throw that one in with your same-game parlays.
Those are the picks for Week 6. Good luck with your wagers!
