The Indianapolis Colts announced on Tuesday that the team has placed veteran cornerback Mike Hilton on practice squad injured reserve and signed fellow cornerback Troy Pride Jr. to their taxi-man team.
Hilton, who was signed a few weeks ago to help replace injured slot starter Kenny Moore II (Achilles), suffered a shoulder injury during this past Sunday’s blowout win against the Las Vegas Raiders.
The Colts reportedly hope that he can still return this season, but it depends on how his shoulder responds to treatment. Hilton will miss at least the team’s next four games on practice squad injured reserve and would be eligible to return during Week 10 against the Atlanta Falcons in Germany—at the earliest.
During 2 starts for the Colts this season, the 31-year-old veteran cornerback 5 tackles (4 solo) and a forced fumble. Per PFF, he had earned a +60.0 overall grade so far this season for Indianapolis.
Originally, Pride Jr. was a 2020 4th round pick of the Carolina Panthers. The 5’11”, 195 pound cornerback has made quite a few stops early in his NFL career, including with the New Orleans Saints, Las Vegas Raiders, Houston Texans, and Dallas Cowboys organizations.
The 27-year-old cornerback has appeared in 17 career games (9 starts), recording 45 tackles (29 solo) and 3 passes defensed. The former Notre Dame standout appeared in 2 games (1 start) for the Cowboys last year, having 3 tackles (2 solo) and a pass defensed. He earned a +64.6 overall grade last year in that limited action.
The Colts also officially announced that they placed injured kicker Spencer Shrader (knee) on injured reserve and signed placekicker Michael Badgley in a corresponding active roster move.
