The Bengals did it. They made a move at quarterback, and a big one at that.
Joe Flacco brings a big arm and excellent processing to Cincinnati. He may be just what the Bengals need to stay alive until the return of Joe Burrow.
Let’s take a look at what he has done recently.
Despite their two star wide receivers, the 2025 Bengals offense has been completely devoid of explosive plays. That can change with Flacco under center. Flacco has a big arm and deep ball accuracy. Just take a look at the ball in this clip.
Giving him the best receiving corps he has ever played with will create a lot of opportunities for Flacco to shine in Cincinnati. The Bengals need a quarterback who can get the ball to their playmakers, and Flacco is that guy.
I know what you are thinking. “He can’t throw the ball to anyone if he is on the ground.”
Well, the savvy veteran Flacco can make fast reads and has a quick delivery. The clip above is a great example.
He can stand in the pocket and make the throw even under duress. He did it in Cleveland with an offensive line that is worse than that of the Bengals. Now he gets to do it with much better weapons.
It’s also worth noting that he is not a statue back there.
He isn’t going to create too much time with his feet or take off for a 50-yard touchdown run, but he can step and slide in the pocket to give himself the time he needs.
This is a great example of just that. Flacco does just enough to buy himself time to complete the third-down pass to move the sticks and get them in field goal range on this two-minute drive.
This was an excellent move by the Bengals, adding a veteran with a wealth of experience and some gas left in the tank to get this team back on track.
