Here’s everything you need to know about the Eagles’ 2024 Week 3 road game.
The Philadelphia Eagles are back on the road for a Week 3 matchup against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday afternoon.
It’s the first 1:00 PM ET game for the Eagles this season, and after watching them perform in primetime last week, this early slate of games seems like an appropriate time for this matchup.
The Eagles didn’t take long before finding some adversity to overcome, and fresh off a one-point loss to the Falcons in the final seconds of the game, they’ve got quite the ways to climb back into things. There were some pretty glaring issues on both sides of the ball against Atlanta, but perhaps most notably was the poor tackling and inability to stop the run by the Philly defense.
Bijan Robinson ran right over and through the Eagles defensive line, and the Saints have used and have had success with a similar scheme. DC Vic Fangio said that they have to find a way to stop the run if they want the opportunity to rush the passer. The Eagles defense had next to no production last game, but Fangio said guys like Jordan Davis, Jalen Carter, and Nolan Smith won’t get QB pressures or sacks unless they first stop the run game.
That will be the big challenge for them on Sunday, which seems like a quick turnaround for how much the really needed to get fixed.
As for the offense, A.J. Brown will miss his second game in a row, and it was increasingly obvious how critical the WR is to the whole operation. There’s still enough talent to be effective without Brown, but there were some mistakes and drops by some of the most reliable guys on the team last week — DeVonta Smith and Saquon Barkley — that will need to be mitigated against New Orleans.
This is the same team that we saw in 2023: A whole lot of talent, but a lack of production. Hopefully things turn around sooner rather than later, or the next 15 weeks will be the longest of the year.

History Lesson
The Eagles lead the all-time series between these teams, 18-13, and have won two of their three most-recent meetings. They last faced off at the end of the 2022 NFL season, with the Saints beating the Eagles, 20-10, in Philly. New Orleans does lead the post-season series, 3-1, including their last face off during the NFC divisional round in January 2019.
There’s also quite a bit of history when it comes to players between these teams. Malcolm Jenkins was drafted by the Saints before signing with the Eagles, and then ultimately returning to New Orleans for the last few years of his career. It’s also a place that current guys like C.J. Gardner-Johnson and Zack Baun will return as former players.
