Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles news and links …
Eagles have no plans to trade A.J. Brown, confident in WR’s role in offense – NFL.com
While Brown’s frustration is noted, the Eagles’ response will be, as well. Expect quarterback Jalen Hurts to get him the ball early in Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos to further emphasize this fact: If Philly is going to make another Super Bowl run, it will need its top WR — who also happens to be one of the NFL’s best. That’s why when teams called in the offseason to inquire about trading for Brown, they were told, “No chance.” It’s also why any potential trade with the Nov. 4 deadline approaching is considered extremely unlikely, sources say. By his lofty standards, Brown is having a down season. He’s on pace for a career-low 10.8 yards per reception, with only 14 receptions for 151 yards through four games. […] But with offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo settling into his new role, and Brown missing a significant chunk of training camp with a hamstring injury, they have struggled to mesh. That said, the offense took some time to work last year, and that worked out OK. Philly chalked up the frustration to competitive people trying to find ways to win, and that formula has helped them reach the Super Bowl twice in three seasons. The Eagles firmly believe Brown will be a focal point if they are to reach a third.
Eagles-Broncos Game Preview: 5 questions and answers with the Week 5 enemy – BGN
1) To what extent have the Broncos lived up to expectations (or not) through four games? Are they better, worse, or about similar to what people expected from them? … If you simply look at the record, you’d say the Broncos are about where most fans and people expected. However, when you look at how Denver lost its two games, that’s where you’d say it’s worse. To lose back-to-back games on last-second field goals is still a gut punch. Then it’s a kick to the nose, given the Broncos were leading in both games. But missed opportunities and poor execution are why this team isn’t 4-0. The good news is that Denver is still in a great spot, given its position in the division and conference, as well as the next five to six games on its schedule.
Broncos at Eagles 5 questions: Why is Philly 4-0? – Mile High Report
Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles know how to win games. Regardless of the situation or type of game, the Eagles find a way. That comes with experience, but also extreme confidence. That helps explain the discrepancy between almost every statistical category and Philly still being 4-0. Now comes the 2-2 Denver Broncos and a team that could be undefeated if not for costly mistakes. FanDuel Sportsbook lists the Eagles as the -4.5-point home favorites. The total sits are over/under 43.5, with a slight lean towards the over at -115. We go “behind enemy lines” to get a feel for the Eagles heading into Sunday’s game with Brandon Lee Gowton from Bleeding Green Nation to preview Sunday’s game. Here are my answers to Brandon’s five questions about the Broncos.
Mailbag: What are the Eagles’ biggest needs at the trade deadline? – PhillyVoice
I think that edge rusher is pretty clearly the biggest need, and also the most likely spot where the Eagles can make a splash, as we covered a couple weeks ago. Vic Fangio even hinted this week that Howie Roseman could be making a move there, with a couple of their edge defenders — Nolan Smith and Ogbo Okoronkwo — on IR.
“I think we’re good with what we have,” Fangio said. “The numbers are dwindling and if we need more, I’m sure Howie will get something done.” Through four games, the Eagles’ edge defenders have 0.5 sacks. As for CB2, I’m curious to get another look at Kelee Ringo, who played a competent game as a starter against the Bucs last week. He was shaky as a tackler, but his coverage was mostly fine. If he can rise to the challenge — sort of like Nolan Smith did around this time last year — that would be a big sigh of relief for the Eagles. We’ll see.
But the position of sneaky need to me is tight end, where Dallas Goedert is always an injury risk and the backups add very little. I’d rank the trade deadline positional needs like so: 1) EDGE, 2) TE, 3) CB2
Game Preview – DEN at PHI – Iggles Blitz
Hurts is a much better QB vs man coverage than zone. It will be interesting to see if Broncos DC Vance Joseph plays more zone because of this or sticks with his preference. The Eagles can study what Shane Steichen did a few weeks back when Indy had so much success. The red zone will be huge in this game. The Eagles have the best red zone offense. The Broncos have the best red zone defense. Who will win that battle? I go back and forth on this game. Part of me thinks the Eagles will respond to all the noise from the week with a good performance. This team has found ways to win all year. They’re at home and should be able to do it again. On the flip side the Broncos have a mobile QB and elite speed rushers. Those are the kind of players who can give the Eagles fits. While it has been great to see the Eagles make clutch plays this season, you can’t get by on that all year. Could this be the week that catches up with the Birds? I lean toward an Eagles win, but I don’t say that with a lot of confidence.
Fans are calling for his job, football analysts have criticized his play calling and Eagles players have expressed frustration with the team’s lack of offensive success. “It’s very unfair,” Eagles offensive tackle Jordan Mailata told NJ Advance Media about the heat Patullo is facing. “I just think it’s very easy to want to blame somebody. Easy target. It’s an execution (issue). There’s nothing else to it.” In conversations with NJ Advance Media, Mailata and other Eagles players took accountability for the offensive struggles and defended Patullo, but ultimately, coaches usually take the fall for poor performances. Later in the season, Patullo could be on the hot seat if Philadelphia’s inept offense causes the team to lose games. Two years ago, the Eagles fired then-new offensive coordinator Brian Johnson after the offense struggled late in the 2023 season, which contributed to a historic collapse. Patullo has to improve as a play caller to avoid that same fate.
Eagles notebook: Meet the new long snapper, a Tush Push ally and more – NBCSP
Over the last four weeks, Cal Adomitis spent a lot of time alone on a football field. After losing a position battle in Cincinnati this summer, Adomitis went home to Pittsburgh and tried to stay ready. While his family was at work, the veteran long snapper spent hours during the day at J.C. Stone Field at North Park in Wexford, Pennsylvania, working on his craft. “It was nice,” Adomitis said this week. “Super peaceful.” Adomitis, 27, would set up a towel on the soccer net, prop up his phone to record, break out his bag of footballs and snap them repeatedly into the towel. Over and over again. The Eagles this week signed Adomitis as their new long snapper, replacing veteran Charley Hughlett, who landed on IR after having core muscle surgery this week. While Adomitis admitted it stung when he was released by the Bengals, getting to step away for a while rekindled his love for football. “Obviously, it’s a love-hate relationship everyone has with camp and coming out of camp it’s a lot going right into the season,” he said. “In a weird way, it was really nice for me to have a couple weeks to just go do my own work and spend some time with my family and re-find my love for football and snapping footballs.”
The 5 O’Clock Club: Week 5 – Commanders vs Chargers game day preview – Hogs Haven
Washington’s own passing game is missing two top receivers — Noah Brown and Terry McLaurin — for the 2nd consecutive week. Tay Martin has been elevated from the practice squad again to enhance the available depth. The return of Jayden Daniels at quarterback should add an extra dimension if he is not limited by his knee injury, but his receivers may be strongly challenged by the Chargers defense that is allowing just 6.7 yards per attempt (second in the league). The Chargers have maintained their reputation for strong defensive efficiency, ranking high in defensive Expected Points Added (EPA) per pass. With a solid foundation in their 3-4 defensive scheme, the Chargers continue to be a top-tier defense in 2025. On Sunday against the Giants, Tuli Tuipulotu tallied 4 sacks himself — with 3 in the first half.
Buy/Sell for Cowboys in Week 5 vs Jets – Blogging The Boys
LBs Jack Sanborn & Kenneth Murray: We’ve seen mobile QBs make even some of our best defensive players look bad, and Murray and Sanborn have already had their issues this year. Murray’s already nursing a knee issue this week, and trying to change direction on play-action and RPOs with Justin Field and Breece Hall won’t be easy. It’s no bold prediction given how they’ve been performing already in 2025, but this matchup could make matters even worse for Dallas’ beleaguered linebackers.
NFL Week 5 betting advice: Giants-Saints picks and props – Big Blue View
Giants MONEYLINE (+106). The 0-4 Saints shouldn’t be favored over anyone right now, period. That’s the extent of my analysis. But seriously, I get why the line is what it is. The Saints played well last week, and they know this is a prime spot for their first win of the season. Meanwhile, it’s a potential trap game for what might be an emotionally spent Giants team, after everything that’s happened in the last week. Brian Daboll’s squad has PHI-DEN-PHI lined up after this “easy” game – a red flag. But I think we saw a different energy on both sides of the ball last week, and I like Big Blue’s chances to keep that going and pull off the road upset behind their young QB, while the Saints continue to struggle behind theirs. When the line is this low and I like the ‘dog to win outright, I’d rather take the moneyline at plus-money than the points with the juice, so that’s the pick.
Former NFL QB and current FOX Sports analyst Mark Sanchez was stabbed on the streets of Indianapolis early Saturday morning and suffered ‘critical injuries,’ according to TMZ. Sanchez was in town to call Indianapolis Colts vs. Las Vegas Raiders game on Sunday. FOX Sports said Sanchez is now in stable condition. TMZ reports that Sanchez was one of two injured people in an incident that happened at 12:30 a.m. The site reports that Sanchez was “rushed to a local hospital in critical condition.” The Indianapolis Police Department issued a statement saying it arrested Sanchez on Saturday for his alleged involvement in the incident. The statement reads: “Sanchez was arrested at the hospital for battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and public intoxication, all of which are misdemeanors.”
