Like Taylor Swift, I am the problem because I literally titled an article: Kyren Williams fumbles the game away, but it wasn’t all on Mr. Williams. Football is a team sport, and this was a full team loss starting with Sean McVay. The team came out flat, and the head coach has to take the blame for that.
Chris Shula’s defense looked surprised or unprepared for everything the San Francisco 49ers did for the first half of the game. Shula and unit did improve later in the game, but they were lost for too long before they found their stride.
The special teams were inconsistent, and in the NFL an inconsistent special teams in an unreliable special teams. That’s a problem.
Now, all those mistakes, and Williams still had two touchdowns and some nice plays keeping L.A. in the game, but when the game was on the line, he fumbled the ball (if he scores that TD he’s likely MVP of the day, or Matthew Stafford). He knows it, both teams know it, the NFL saw it and so did the fans.
Now despite all that, did the Rams still have a chance? They sure did, but if Williams doesn’t fumble on the one-yard line, then all is forgiven, but he did fumble and the Rams lost. Nothing is forgiven.
So, these are real people trying their best, I don’t think they should be put down any more than needed, and they are also paid to perform, and to take the criticism when they don’t. That’s life.
For now, the Rams will have to take all the criticism thrown at them, including concerns about Williams, and they’ll either respond from it or they won’t.
Alright, sorry for being all serious! It’s a Saturday, I ought to lighten up. Thank you for checking out Turf Show Times and comment away!
Football Sunday is coming and many more games beyond that. This season is far from over.
Rams’ Williams takes blame after late goal-line fumble in loss (espn.com)
“S— sucks,” Williams said. “I don’t know. For me, I just got to hold onto the ball. I feel like I let the team down at the 1-yard line, not securing the one thing that matters and scoring the touchdown. So for me, I put this all on me, honestly, and just knowing that I got to be better.”
Sean McVay ‘disgusted’ after Rams let win slip away due to ball security, special teams woes (foxsports)
“I can’t remember feeling much more disgusted waking up after a tough loss than I have after the two that we’ve had,” McVay said. “You want to talk about two gut punches in terms of how we’ve lost the two games that we have. We’re a couple of execution plays away from being a 5-0 team, but the reality is we’re 3-2.”
San Francisco beat Los Angeles 26-23 in overtime Thursday despite playing without most of its star players. The game ended with Kyren Williams getting stuffed on fourth-and-1 at the 49ers 11, continuing the Rams’ season-long inability to convert short-yardage rushing plays.“
Sean McVay feels just like every Rams fan waking up after LA’s 2 brutal losses (ramswire)
“You want to talk about two gut punches in terms of how we’ve lost the two games that we have,” he said. “We’re a couple execution plays away from being a 5-0 team, but the reality is we’re 3-2. How we move forward and how we use this – I can’t remember feeling much more disgusted waking up after a tough loss than I have after the two that we’ve had and it’s because I love this group so much.”
